Musical evening at Ladies Club.

Mrs. Farrukh Mukhtar, lifetime president of Ladies Club, Multan.

December holds great romance for the natives of city of saints. The days are short and dreamy. 'Winter nights enlarge'. Mostly engulfed in mists and fogs. Nights, get freezing. Sometimes, temperature drops down to Zero degree Celsius. But if the sun comes out, unfiltered by the fog, the days turn charming and picturesque. December in Multan, is the time, when you are oft reminded of Andy Williams song, 'speak softly love'. Specially the lyrics

'Wine colored days, warmed by the sun,
deep velvet
nights....'

Though, the city of saints is notorious for its heat in summer. Outsiders, find it hard to believe, how cold it gets in winters. But it's a fact. And the reason for it is, its proximity to a hill station called 'Fort Manro' in south Punjab. Which is situated on the border of Punjab and Balochistan.

This year, December seemed to have flown in, an early flight. Leaving, its usual colds, rains and fogs somewhere in time (atleast for the first ten days). But finally they reached, before the middle of the month.

What was a better way to celebrate the arrival of the new season but to arrange a bonfire and a musical evening, in the serenity of an open lawn. And this is what  Mahnaz Amir Sheikh and her group members, which included life Mrs. Farrukh Mukhtar and Rabia Rehman, decided for holding their annual party at Ladies Club, Multan.

On Saturday, 14th December, a musical evening was arranged. Ms. Najma Gillani, a well known educationist and socialite, who is blessed with a melodious voice, alongwith passion for singing, was invited as the star performer. Her name was enough to attract, a nice turnover of the members of the ladies club, who are ardent fans of domestic, homely, musical evenings like this one.

The program started, exactly at 6 pm, as scheduled. Shagufta Khaaksaar, the stage secretary of the club, hosted the event. Najma Gillani, sang beautiful Indian and Pakistani ghazals, with live music.

Mrs. Tahira Najam, the media secretary, read out the annual report of the events, which took place during the year 2013.

Different members, including Farah K. Khwaja, Tahira, Masooma Sibtain and Uzma Burana, joined in singing with Najma Gillani during her performance. Which definitely added more fun to the event.

Mrs. Fariha Munir Shah, joint secretary, ladies club, thanked the audience and the hosts of the evening. And also made some important announcements, alongwith proposing, different suggestions by members to be considered as future plans.

Finally, the annual prize distribution ceremony took place. The club administration was awarded gifts by the president  Mrs.Farrukh Mukhtar and General secretary, Mrs, Mahnaz Amir.

And at the end of the event, a fantastic, scrumptious, sumptuous dinner awaited the gathering. And everybody enjoyed it, gathered around the bonfire.

View of the domes of MGM bulding from inside the pool. The crystal clear blue water. Chairs lined up for the spectators. Little pool for the toddlers. Summer is finally here, although, the weather still turns unpredictable at times. But still, one feels like taking a dip in the cool, cool water of a crystal clear pool.  M.G.M (Multan Garrison Mess. Commonly known among  Multanis, by its' old name 'services club'), opens up, pool doors for all its' members every 15th of April. The pool is open air, so it works on seasonal basis. From April to September/ October (if weather allows it).  Last year, the pool remained open, only till May, after that, it was shut down for renovations & could not be reopened because of the 'dengue' scare. MGM pool has always been, undoubtedly the biggest & the best in this city, with an excellent filtration plant to boast & an extremely dedicated team of military men as workers, for maintaining th...

Annual debates at SOS Herman Gmeiner school

Glimpses from the event When you first visit SOS Herman Gmeiner school Multan, you are amazed by its majestic architectural design, beautifully decorated class rooms, functional libraries, meticulously pruned playgrounds, clean walkways and glistening environment. You look at the well mannered, disciplined, full of smiles students, extremely efficient staff members, all this makes you believe that this must be a high end school. To be honest, it is equally great in all its standards. Rather better in some, as they have Rosetta Stone library, through its audio/video English learning methods, children of this school have acquired exceptional accents and perfect pronunciations. Each student has access to laptop in computer class, their teachers use smartboard alongwith blackboard. Even their teachers are assessed and guided with the help of executive committee members. There is a subject of  'general knowledge', which is based on the colorful books in their library, it requires th...

Leading lady of Multan Mrs. Farrukh Mukhtar

Mrs. Farrukh Mukhtar Mrs. Farrukh Mukhtar is a name synonymous with women empowerment in entire South Punjab. She is a living proof of the saying, 'empowered women, empower other women'. She became a member of Majlis-e-shurra of Pakistan and served at that position from 1982 to 1985 and dedicated herself for the betterment of underprivileged women of South Punjab.  Mrs. Farrukh Mukhtar was fully aware of the talents of the women of this area and knew how their skills were exploited at home and at work. She was determined to uplift and raise their standards of living, through education and trainings. She was among first people to ever demand a separate university for the girls of Multan and remained persistent about it. Finally, it bore fruit, three decades later, in form of women's university Multan.  Not just education, but she has worked for the social and economic empowerment of the women too.
