Two great parties by one great lady, Mahnaz Amir Sheikh.

Mahnaz Amir Sheikh in her beautiful lawn.

Mahnaz Amir Sheikh is among those eminent ladies of Multan, who have put a lot of effort in creating their own individual identity, despite having big references of their families. Mahnaz is the only female entrepreneur in entire South Punjab, who successfully works in the field of furniture and has established a long list of loyal customers.

Daughter of the two remarkable political and social personalities of the city of saints, Mr. (late) Mukhtiar Sheikh and Mrs. Farrukh Mukhtiar. Mahnaz has inherited the best of their qualities, along with the name and fame. And stands tall, with characteristics unique to her personality.

Mahnaz has recently moved to Canada for the education of her children. But, it does not mean, she has lost her contact with the people back in her city. Every three months or so, she gets back in the city, throws great parties and entertains her near and dear at her beautiful, palatial house.

This April, she was here only for fifteen days. During that, she hosted two parties at her place. The first one, was a dinner for the members of a committee run by Mrs. Fauzia Buccha but like always, Mahnaz also invited few of her old, near and dear friends.

On Tuesday, 15th April, the perfectly laid garden of her ostentatious house,, named 'fawz-ul-jahan', was in full bloom, with flowers boasting their true colours, spreading scents in the air. Even Nature seemed to be taking her side, as it turned out to be an extremely pleasant evening. Ornamental fountains added some natural melody to the music, which Mahnaz had arranged to keep her guests entertained.

The catering was done by Ramada. The most beautiful feature of their service was, the mirror top dinning tables, which enhanced the beauty of every decorative item or flower arrangement, placed over them to beautify the event. An airy and aromatic evening it turned out to be.

Alongwith the regular menu, there was also arrangement of live cooking. Yet, nobody had to que up for that as the chef was quick enough and the organizers had plenty of eatables, readily seved on the tables.

Mahnaz's sister Fadia Kashif, was also present at the occasion with their mother, the most prominent lady among Multani women, Mrs. Farrukh Mukhtar. Other than the committee members, those among the guests were, Dr. Qamar Khushi, Mrs. Fauzia Anjum, Rabia Rahman, Saima Faisal, Shazia Fareed and Fariha Munir Shah.

The Second party was of a very special kind. Just for a handful of people. Mahnaz lives in the neighbourhood of the most prominent of the military elites. Her house is absolutely across the road of the Corp commander Multan. So, Mahnaz's second party was meant for the wives of the senior military officials of Multan, mainly brigadiers and generals.

And again, friends like Mahnaz Fareed Sheikh, Ramen Anis, Fariha Munir Shah, Attiqa Hussain, Saadia Yaqub, Rani Muddasar, Dr. Saleha Bokhari and Romana Tanveer, were part of the party besides being civilians.

Dr. Qamar Khushi and Fauzia Anjum, being the wives of army brigadiers, made the part of this military elite group, alongwith Mrs. Corp commander, Mrs. GOC, Brigadier Ali's wife Sadia Ali.

On 17th April, Mahnaz had her regally decorated drawing room filled with her special friends. Everybody had a hearty time, had chit chats, about the lawn mania and other womanly issues. The dinner was served outside, where the guests also enjoyed the landings of the aeroplanes at airport next to the house, alongwith the scrumptious meal. The weather, truly amazed everybody, as thunder and lightning added special effects in the sky during that time.

Mahnaz! Your presence beautifies the life here in Multan. Big or small, your parties always present, best of the best. Have a safe journey back to Canada, Mulatani-ites will anxiously await your next return. Best of luck for everything.

Summer is finally here, although, the weather still turns unpredictable at times. But still, one feels like taking a dip in the cool, cool water of a crystal clear pool.  M.G.M (Multan Garrison Mess. Commonly known among  Multanis, by its' old name 'services club'), opens up, pool doors for all its' members every 15th of April. The pool is open air, so it works on seasonal basis. From April to September/ October (if weather allows it).  Last year, the pool remained open, only till May, after that, it was shut down for renovations & could not be reopened because of the 'dengue' scare. MGM pool has always been, undoubtedly the biggest & the best in this city, with an excellent filtration plant to boast & an extremely dedicated team of military men as workers, for maintaining th

Leading lady of Multan Mrs. Farrukh Mukhtar

Mrs. Farrukh Mukhtar Mrs. Farrukh Mukhtar is a name synonymous with women empowerment in entire South Punjab. She is a living proof of the saying, 'empowered women, empower other women'. She became a member of Majlis-e-shurra of Pakistan and served at that position from 1982 to 1985 and dedicated herself for the betterment of underprivileged women of South Punjab.  Mrs. Farrukh Mukhtar was fully aware of the talents of the women of this area and knew how their skills were exploited at home and at work. She was determined to uplift and raise their standards of living, through education and trainings. She was among first people to ever demand a separate university for the girls of Multan and remained persistent about it. Finally, it bore fruit, three decades later, in form of women's university Multan.  Not just education, but she has worked for the social and economic empowerment of the women too. She is the president of Ladies club Multan. A social platform, which exists fo

Annual debates at SOS Herman Gmeiner school

Glimpses from the event When you first visit SOS Herman Gmeiner school Multan, you are amazed by its majestic architectural design, beautifully decorated class rooms, functional libraries, meticulously pruned playgrounds, clean walkways and glistening environment. You look at the well mannered, disciplined, full of smiles students, extremely efficient staff members, all this makes you believe that this must be a high end school. To be honest, it is equally great in all its standards. Rather better in some, as they have Rosetta Stone library, through its audio/video English learning methods, children of this school have acquired exceptional accents and perfect pronunciations. Each student has access to laptop in computer class, their teachers use smartboard alongwith blackboard. Even their teachers are assessed and guided with the help of executive committee members. There is a subject of  'general knowledge', which is based on the colorful books in their library, it requires th
