Ladies club, 'Eid milan'.

Mrs. Naseem Raheem, hosting the show.
While Rabia Bossan, Tahira Najam and Mrs. Iqbal Chahudary on stage

October was a fun filled month for Multani-ites. Alongwith eid festivities, parties, weddings, different get-togethers went on everywhere. How could ladies club Multan, lag behind at such a time. Fortunately, a very talented group of ladies, had its turn to organize a party. And it had to be perfect, as Mrs. Naseem Rahim, a 'lifetime achievement award' winning member of the club was the chief organizer. The distinguished lady also has the honor of serving the club, as 'secretary' for several years. The other group members included the names of Rabia Bosan, Mrs. Zahra Khitran, Mrs. Farrah Ilyas, Bina Younas, Mrs. Munaza Iqbal, Mrs. Farah Saqib and Rani Mudassar.

On 25th October, an Eid Milan was arranged. Mrs. Naseem Raheem started the function with an introductory speech, extending 'Eid mubarak' to all the members. After addressing some important issues and highlighting the upcoming program, she invited Dr. Huma Athar to host the rest of the show. Dr. Huma remained a very active member of this club, since her childhood, as Mrs. Naseem Raheem is her mother. She always made her participate actively in all the activities. Huma also served as program secretary of this club for many years.

Huma had a unique idea of conducting a talk show. For that she invited Mrs. Tahira Najam and joint secretary of the club Fariha Munir Shah on stage and bombarded them with funny questions and queries. The rapid fire round, had everybody rolling on the floor with laughter, as the guests had to answer quickly and many slips of tongue, occurred to amuse the audience. Dr. Huma proved that laughter is indeed the best medicine and a good doctor is the one, who puts this in his practice (her practice in Huma's case). Later, Mrs. Khakwani and Mrs. Munaza Iqbal, also had to go through, a similar round, at the hands of tickling doctor.

Another part of the show was 'Eid dress' competition. All the well dressed, well prepared ladies were invited to take part in a catwalk. One after other, the seniors and the juniors swayed along, imparting feline grace to the ramp. Styles, colors, designs, jewelery of the participants bedazzled the audience.Mrs. Naseem Raheem, together with Mrs. Farah Saqib conducted this part of the show. Mrs. Shagufta Khaksaar, Fariha Munir Shah & Shazia won this contest.

To further compliment the perfection , a very formal, scrumptious dinner was served. It was indeed a brilliant show and everybody loved, every second of it. Thanks a lot ladies, for putting so much of effort and arranging a superb show, keeping up the traditions.

At the end, the writer of the blog would like to add some personal notes. A tragedy that she has often witnessed by few of the guests at this place. Multan is believed to be a conservative place. Not only, people who run this blog are aware of this sensitivity but the entire media/ press of the area is very conscious of the fact that not many women are allowed by their husbands and families to get their social or cultural activities published everywhere. So, we remain extremely care for featuring only those people, who belong to enlightened, broad minded backgrounds. And their permission is asked before even their picture is taken.

Although, club mainly allows female journalists but for photography, sometimes males are sent by respective newspapers. Sometimes, some embarrassing situations are created by some women, who probably want to be noticed more than others at the spot. Only because, they select not to be published anywhere. When, they appear at a gathering, encouraged to participate in the activities, they create scenes by throwing attention seeking tantrums about removal of all male photographers from the party area, without acknowledging the fact, that just minutes earlier they had a full photo session with the same photographers. It is truly demeaning. An inconvenience and insult to hosts and also to the media personnel, who are as honorable to hosts, as any of the guests present at the gathering. Many of the ladies of this club are pardah observing and they always adopt dignified ways to take to a side. No photographer has ever seen their face, they do not raise hue and cry or burn down the scene by their antics. Kindly, do learn something from them. Nobody in this city is a celebrity big enough that the photographers can not do without taking pictures, the press here is not paparazzi but people invited at the request of the members. And why spoil other people's show? To get respect, you need to extend it as well. Always, keep that in mind. Thank you.

M.G.M. Swimming pool.

View of the domes of MGM bulding from inside the pool. The crystal clear blue water. Chairs lined up for the spectators. Little pool for the toddlers. Summer is finally here, although, the weather still turns unpredictable at times. But still, one feels like taking a dip in the cool, cool water of a crystal clear pool.  M.G.M (Multan Garrison Mess. Commonly known among  Multanis, by its' old name 'services club'), opens up, pool doors for all its' members every 15th of April. The pool is open air, so it works on seasonal basis. From April to September/ October (if weather allows it).  Last year, the pool remained open, only till May, after that, it was shut down for renovations & could not be reopened because of the 'dengue' scare. MGM pool has always been, undoubtedly the biggest & the best in this city, with an excellent filtration plant to boast & an extremely dedicated team of military men as workers, for maintaining th...

Annual debates at SOS Herman Gmeiner school

Glimpses from the event When you first visit SOS Herman Gmeiner school Multan, you are amazed by its majestic architectural design, beautifully decorated class rooms, functional libraries, meticulously pruned playgrounds, clean walkways and glistening environment. You look at the well mannered, disciplined, full of smiles students, extremely efficient staff members, all this makes you believe that this must be a high end school. To be honest, it is equally great in all its standards. Rather better in some, as they have Rosetta Stone library, through its audio/video English learning methods, children of this school have acquired exceptional accents and perfect pronunciations. Each student has access to laptop in computer class, their teachers use smartboard alongwith blackboard. Even their teachers are assessed and guided with the help of executive committee members. There is a subject of  'general knowledge', which is based on the colorful books in their library, it requires th...

Leading lady of Multan Mrs. Farrukh Mukhtar

Mrs. Farrukh Mukhtar Mrs. Farrukh Mukhtar is a name synonymous with women empowerment in entire South Punjab. She is a living proof of the saying, 'empowered women, empower other women'. She became a member of Majlis-e-shurra of Pakistan and served at that position from 1982 to 1985 and dedicated herself for the betterment of underprivileged women of South Punjab.  Mrs. Farrukh Mukhtar was fully aware of the talents of the women of this area and knew how their skills were exploited at home and at work. She was determined to uplift and raise their standards of living, through education and trainings. She was among first people to ever demand a separate university for the girls of Multan and remained persistent about it. Finally, it bore fruit, three decades later, in form of women's university Multan.  Not just education, but she has worked for the social and economic empowerment of the women too. She is the president of Ladies club Multan. A social platform, which exists fo...
