Friends of SOS throw dholak for Rabia the SOS child

The organizers of the event

SOS village Multan is a haven for underpriviliged children. Who are not just raised, dressed or fed here, but also educated, enlightened, groomed, trained, taught skills to meet challenges of life. Equipped well first and then, attempts are made to settle them in their lives. Boys and girls are provided equal opportunities to acquire jobs. For girls, extra pains are taken to find suitable matches inorder to marry them off.

One such endeavour was made for a little girl called Rabia, brought-up by SOS family. She was all set to get married in September 2018. Therefore, friends of SOS, dedicated their monthly committee party in August to arrange a colourful 'dholak' party to honour Rabia's wedding. An idea proposed by Mahnaz Fareed, gladly welcomed by the generous hostesses, including Saima Faisal, Rabia Rehman, Syeda Zahra Bassat Bokhari, Shazia Fareed, Farah Faisal, Zahida Sabih.

Here, we must acknowledge the efforts and contributions of the chairperson of SOS village Multan, none other than Mahnaz Fareed Sheikh . Who is, not only, the life and soul of this organiztion. Has built this empire of SOS from scratch, over last 2 decades, but is also close to each and every child at the village and school, just like a fairy godmother. This iron-lady, who appears more like a nymph, is blessed with Herculean strength and as compassionate a soul like mother Teressa, contributions not less than anybody in this regard.

This group was also fortunate to include Saima Faisal, the CEO/owner of Ramada hotel Multan. She organized the event at Ramada at took care of all the arrangements, menu and decorations . A wooden swing was adorned with flowers for the bride to be, to sit. Wooden dance floors were placed for revelery and celebration. The spirit of festivity was dominant. Flower arrangements, candles, disco lights and music, painted a bright backdrop. All the hostesses were dressed in formal attires associated with such Pakistani traditional weddings. They had also requested their guests to dress up that way. So, each and everyone sparkled and glowed.

Dholak (traditional small drum) was beaten by girls from SOS, joined in by the members to sing along. There were dances as well, but one performance by Mrs. Zaman of SOS, left everyone in awe. Rabia's friends from SOS, did appear fabulous in beautiful outfits and supported their friend by participation in singing and dance performances. It was an evening of beauty and joyfulness.

Rameen Anis was incharge of announcements, introduced hostesses to the gathering, admired their efforts and generosity. Also informed friends of SOS, how their contributions were bringing marvelous changes in the lives of children like Rabia. Mahnaz Fareed also addressed the gathering and thanked all those, who took time out from their busy schedules to be a part of a happy chapter in the life of Rabia. She said, it is only SOS, which not only provides basic necessities of life to these children but also a family. Mahnaz also shared with everybody, a quick update of activities at SOS village Multan.

At the end, a scrumptious dinner was served, complete with a great variety of sweets. It was indeed a beauteous eve, arranged by beautiful people, to honour a respledent cause. An evening, which is going to stay forever, in the memory of Rabia and all the girls of SOS, who were part of the occassion. Not just for them, but for everybody, who became a part of this festivity. We pray for a bright, content, succesful and happy future for Rabia and blessings for the hostesses and all those who contributed for SOS. Keep up the good work!

Summer is finally here, although, the weather still turns unpredictable at times. But still, one feels like taking a dip in the cool, cool water of a crystal clear pool.  M.G.M (Multan Garrison Mess. Commonly known among  Multanis, by its' old name 'services club'), opens up, pool doors for all its' members every 15th of April. The pool is open air, so it works on seasonal basis. From April to September/ October (if weather allows it).  Last year, the pool remained open, only till May, after that, it was shut down for renovations & could not be reopened because of the 'dengue' scare. Leading lady of Multan Mrs. Farrukh Mukhtar

Mrs. Farrukh Mukhtar Mrs. Farrukh Mukhtar is a name synonymous with women empowerment in entire South Punjab. She is a living proof of the saying, 'empowered women, empower other women'. She became a member of Majlis-e-shurra of Pakistan and served at that position from 1982 to 1985 and dedicated herself for the betterment of underprivileged women of South Punjab.  Mrs. Farrukh Mukhtar was fully aware of the talents of the women of this area and knew how their skills were exploited at home and at work. She was determined to uplift and raise their standards of living, through education and trainings. She was among first people to ever demand a separate university for the girls of Multan and remained persistent about it. Finally, it bore fruit, three decades later, in form of women's university Multan.  Not just education, but she has worked for the social and economic empowerment of the women too. Annual debates at SOS Herman Gmeiner school

Glimpses from the event When you first visit SOS Herman Gmeiner school Multan, you are amazed by its majestic architectural design, beautifully decorated class rooms, functional libraries, meticulously pruned playgrounds, clean walkways and glistening environment. You look at the well mannered, disciplined, full of smiles students, extremely efficient staff members, all this makes you believe that this must be a high end school. To be honest, it is equally great in all its standards. Rather better in some, as they have Rosetta Stone library, through its audio/video English learning methods, children of this school have acquired exceptional accents and perfect pronunciations. Each student has access to laptop in computer class, their teachers use smartboard alongwith blackboard. Even their teachers are assessed and guided with the help of executive committee members. There is a subject of  'general knowledge', which is based on the colorful books in their library, it requires th
