Motivational talk by girls of SOS village Multan

The bright, beautiful, girls of SOS

On Saturday 11th November, Maryam hall at Ramada hotel Multan, witnessed a unique party by friends of SOS. It reminded everybody, the prime purpose of this social networking is the welfare and betterment of SOS children and not just, meet, greet, eat, drink and be merry. It highlighted the fact that, children at SOS village Multan are not only provided a shelter and a living, but are also being prepared for the challenges of life. They are being groomed, equally well, if not any better than those, who belong to priviliged background. They are given equal opportunities to study, to explore their talents, to polish and make use of them.

For the purpose, eight girls from SOS village were the special guests at this party, who appeared on the stage and shared their lifetime experiences. How their life was, before they reached here and how it was transformed for the better. Their confidence, their capability of story telling, their appearances, everything narrated their journey through time and was not less than any TED talk, truly inspiring and motivating. Some of their stories brought tears in the eyes of the audience and brought out thunderous applause.

Here, it is important to mention the role of Mahnaz Fareed Sheikh, who is more like a fairy godmother to these children. She is not only an excellent administrator of all the SOS projects in Multan, but her role, in the lives of these children is much more bigger. She remains attached with every child and helps him or her strive for better things in life. She motivates them to be the best at everything, from studies, to sports. Be it singing, dancing, acting or debating, she encourages them to bring out their talents and makes arrangements to allow them to practice at maximum. There is a fun-filled life there at the village. Nothing boring or depressing.

The purpose of all her networking and social life is to bring bigger and better opportunities for these children. Mahnaz never leaves these children, till the girls are married off or the boys get the jobs and are settled. Amazingly, it is not settling for anything at the end. She makes sure, these children, attend universities, medical colleges and whatever of the best is available in the society. She is always striving, always on the look to establish these children. It must be said, lucky are these children at SOS village Multan, who have such a dedicated soul, working for them. Indeed, remarkable.

Rameen Anis and Hania Shahid are also among the flag bearers of this village and are not behind, to contribute through time, energy and monetary means. Their committment to this cause, from the begining remains a source of strength for Mahnaz and SOS village. Saadia Yaqoob is also one of those, who have always been a part of this cause and imagining it, without them is impossible. Hats off to all these wonder women.

Back to the party.
Mahnaz Fareed, addressed the gathering and threw a light on the lives of these high-achievers and thanked all friends of SOS, for their philanthropic spirit. She informed everybody that, lots of fun, awaits them at SOS village, as on 15th December, a fundraiser is being arranged there. A special musical evening with Ali-Sethi. She added, it is already a sold out event, but room can be created, if more friends of SOS are willing to join.

The hostesses included the names of Aasifa Khwaja, Zeba Javed, Rani, Romana Tanvir, Asmi and others. They displayed a great spirit of hospitality and extended special welcome for the girls from SOS village and for all their guests. The turnover at their party was amazing. Everybody was in a mood to listen to the stories and lifetime experiences shared by the speakers. It turned out to be a great evening, ending with a sumptuous hi-tea that  everybody enjoyed.

Well-done, to the hostesses and well done, to all those associated with the cause.

Summer is finally here, although, the weather still turns unpredictable at times. But still, one feels like taking a dip in the cool, cool water of a crystal clear pool.  M.G.M (Multan Garrison Mess. Commonly known among  Multanis, by its' old name 'services club'), opens up, pool doors for all its' members every 15th of April. The pool is open air, so it works on seasonal basis. From April to September/ October (if weather allows it).  Last year, the pool remained open, only till May, after that, it was shut down for renovations & could not be reopened because of the 'dengue' scare. MGM pool has always been, undoubtedly the biggest & the best in this city, with an excellent filtration plant to boast & an extremely dedicated team of military men as workers, for maintaining th

Annual debates at SOS Herman Gmeiner school

Glimpses from the event When you first visit SOS Herman Gmeiner school Multan, you are amazed by its majestic architectural design, beautifully decorated class rooms, functional libraries, meticulously pruned playgrounds, clean walkways and glistening environment. You look at the well mannered, disciplined, full of smiles students, extremely efficient staff members, all this makes you believe that this must be a high end school. To be honest, it is equally great in all its standards. Rather better in some, as they have Rosetta Stone library, through its audio/video English learning methods, children of this school have acquired exceptional accents and perfect pronunciations. Each student has access to laptop in computer class, their teachers use smartboard alongwith blackboard. Even their teachers are assessed and guided with the help of executive committee members. There is a subject of  'general knowledge', which is based on the colorful books in their library, it requires th
