Cricket match FOS Tufaans vs SOS Sultaans

Pakistani women are quite fond of 'Committee system', a method of money collection in which some members pool a specific amount of money together and each of the member receives the entire amount at their turn and also get an opportunity to meet and greet other members. Keeping that in mind, 'Friends of SOS Multan' committee was formed almost a decade ago. The purpose was to introduce and involve willing ladies in the society to the noble cause of SOS. To form a big group of ladies and explore their philanthropic spirit, while providing them lots of opportunities to socialize and have fun. This committe is actually a fundraiser, where each member donates, half of their collected committee to SOS village.

The genius behind bringing them together, is none other than, very talented Hania Shahid. Who has been running it in a very systematic way. The increasing numbers of members every year, speak for its popularity. The best part of it is that it ends within an year and begins afresh, even with hundred of members. The latest committee started in March 2022. The first party was hosted by Mahnaz Fareed Sheikh and her group members. Most of you know that Mahnaz Fareed is the head of all of SOS projects in Multan. Her gifts to underprivilged of the society, in form of  SOS village, SOS Herman Gmeiner school, SOS village youth home and SOS college (HSSC), contributed her a stature, far more colossal than anybody. As a recognition of her dedication, she is taken as a member of 'board of directors' all Pakistan SOS villages organization.

Hostesses of the first FOS committee party, alongwith Mahnaz Fareed, included the names of Mrs. Fozia Mughees, Asma Mahmood, Farah Ibrar, Mahnaz Amir, Maria Nadeem, Sajeeda Hafeez, Dr. Uzma, Dr. Waseema Talat and Masooma Sibtain.

Venue, the splendid lawns of Mahnaz Fareed's house. It was the first mega event by FOS, after relaxation of Cornona restrictions, that is why the turnover of the members was massive, but so were the preparations, which were willingly done by Mahnaz Fareed all by herself.

As the fever of T20 matches, was on those days. Mahnaz came up with the most exciting theme. A cricket match between Friends of SOS (FOS) and Girls from SOS village and she also named both the teams. FOS Tufaans and SOS Sultans. Her preparations for the event were extensive. Sashes for the team members of FOS Tufaans and SOS Sultaans. Whistles and pom poms for the cheer leaders and supporters. Chilled mineral water bottles for all, in case someone gets tired of shouting and cheering. The playground was marked with chalk powder. Music fillled the air. Atmosphere was exhillarating.

Shazia Fareed played Captain of FOS Tufaans. Whereas, Bakhtawar lead the SOS Sultaans. Whoever was willing to play, got a chance to play cricket, ball or bat. Ladies in sportsgears, in shalwar kameez, everybody had an equal share in the game. No discriminations. Though, a clear win was being anticipated for SOS Sultaans as they were young and energetic, but FOS Tufaans proved their worth too and the match ended up in a tie. Both the teams played brilliantly.

After the game, all the guests were lead to dinning area. Where scrumptious hi-tea was awaiting them, but before that, the tradition of a video presentation of all the achievements of the children and recent activities taken place at SOS village. Mahnaz Fareed conducted that session and also announced that, Misbah Mehar Ali has been selected General secretary of FOS committee for the year 2022. Also that a ''Committee of advocates of SOS'' is formed as well. Out of all the members of FOS, four members have been inducted as advocates.

1) Umbreen Qureshi (Education advocacy)
2) Asma Athar (Maternal care advocacy)
3) Dr. Muneeza Nasir  (Health care advocacy)
4) Mrs. Maryam Faisal (Mental health)

Hania Shahid took out the draws for the upcoming committees and announced the names of the members and their turns. Misbah Mehar Ali also addressed the gathering and thanked for the honor bestowed on her.

All the members thoroughly enjoyed the respledent evening, the amazing company and so much fun. We congratulate the hostesses for putting an extraordinary show, also greet the new inductions and wish them all the best with their avocacy plans.

M.G.M. Swimming pool.

View of the domes of MGM bulding from inside the pool. The crystal clear blue water. Chairs lined up for the spectators. Little pool for the toddlers. Summer is finally here, although, the weather still turns unpredictable at times. But still, one feels like taking a dip in the cool, cool water of a crystal clear pool.  M.G.M (Multan Garrison Mess. Commonly known among  Multanis, by its' old name 'services club'), opens up, pool doors for all its' members every 15th of April. The pool is open air, so it works on seasonal basis. From April to September/ October (if weather allows it).  Last year, the pool remained open, only till May, after that, it was shut down for renovations & could not be reopened because of the 'dengue' scare. MGM pool has always been, undoubtedly the biggest & the best in this city, with an excellent filtration plant to boast & an extremely dedicated team of military men as workers, for maintaining th

Leading lady of Multan Mrs. Farrukh Mukhtar

Mrs. Farrukh Mukhtar Mrs. Farrukh Mukhtar is a name synonymous with women empowerment in entire South Punjab. She is a living proof of the saying, 'empowered women, empower other women'. She became a member of Majlis-e-shurra of Pakistan and served at that position from 1982 to 1985 and dedicated herself for the betterment of underprivileged women of South Punjab.  Mrs. Farrukh Mukhtar was fully aware of the talents of the women of this area and knew how their skills were exploited at home and at work. She was determined to uplift and raise their standards of living, through education and trainings. She was among first people to ever demand a separate university for the girls of Multan and remained persistent about it. Finally, it bore fruit, three decades later, in form of women's university Multan.  Not just education, but she has worked for the social and economic empowerment of the women too. She is the president of Ladies club Multan. A social platform, which exists fo

Annual debates at SOS Herman Gmeiner school

Glimpses from the event When you first visit SOS Herman Gmeiner school Multan, you are amazed by its majestic architectural design, beautifully decorated class rooms, functional libraries, meticulously pruned playgrounds, clean walkways and glistening environment. You look at the well mannered, disciplined, full of smiles students, extremely efficient staff members, all this makes you believe that this must be a high end school. To be honest, it is equally great in all its standards. Rather better in some, as they have Rosetta Stone library, through its audio/video English learning methods, children of this school have acquired exceptional accents and perfect pronunciations. Each student has access to laptop in computer class, their teachers use smartboard alongwith blackboard. Even their teachers are assessed and guided with the help of executive committee members. There is a subject of  'general knowledge', which is based on the colorful books in their library, it requires th
