Mother's day celebration by Friends of SOS

Hostesses Dr. Munazza Nasir, Atika Hussain, Kiran Dogar with Fariha Munir, Saima Faisal, Rameen Anis and Sos mothers

SOS village is a modern kind of shelter-house, which is systematically designed as a place, where orphans and abandoned children, get a family of their own, alongwith a house which they can call their home.

A village consists of several houses. Each house hosts ten children and they are looked after by a woman, who is assigned the task of being their mother. She looks after them. From cooking their meals to dressing them up and any other job that a mother is supposed to do, she is there to perform.

This job requires more physical, emotional and mental hardwork, as even real mothers lose their balance, when it comes to 'taming of the shrew' whom we call our children. Imagine the strength required to handle other people's children and take care of them as one's own. Praiseworthy indeed.

SOS village Multan is a place, which rewards and celebrates all its workers and team-mates. As middle of May is declared as ''Mothers day''. It was decided, the theme for 'friends of SOS' committee party, would be 'mothers day' and ladies appointed as 'mothers' at SOS village, be invited as 'guests of honor' and showered with words of appreciation and gifts for their valuable services.

The hostesses of the evening were Asma Athar, Atiqa Hussain, Hadiya Khakwani, Itrat Gillani, Kiran Dogar, Dr. Munazza Nasir, Romana Khakwani, Rukhshy, Sadia Dogar, Saima Tanveer. Arrangements were looked after by Saima Faisal, as the event was arranged at ''Maryam hall'' of her hotel "Ramada Multan'' and also she is a board member of SOS village.

On 23rd May, all the mothers of SOS were present at the event. Rameen Anis introduced them to 'friends of SOS' and acknowledged their contributions with a video presentation. The hostesses present at the event, Atiqa Hussain, Dr. Munazza Nasir and Kiran Dogar were requested to present the mothers with the gifts which the hostesses had arranged collectively.

Also, birthday celebrations of children born in the passing month has become a permanent feature of 'friends of sos' committee party. Birthday children were there too. Gifts and cakes for them by the hostesses too. A table laid, with cakes, each one received their own individual cake and there mothers at SOS stood along them for cake cutting this time.

What a lovely, lovely event. What a lovely, lovely arrangement. Thanks to the superb hostesses of the event, friends of SOS, Mahnaz Fareed, who heads all the projects of SOS Multan and Hania Shahid, who runs this committee. (Although absence of these two beauties was felt at the event), but indeed, this system runs because of them. Hats off to these girls, mothers of SOS and also to 'yours truly, Fariha Munir,' who is bringing to the public all the information of activities of SOS village, for a decade now.

M.G.M. Swimming pool.

View of the domes of MGM bulding from inside the pool. The crystal clear blue water. Chairs lined up for the spectators. Little pool for the toddlers. Summer is finally here, although, the weather still turns unpredictable at times. But still, one feels like taking a dip in the cool, cool water of a crystal clear pool.  M.G.M (Multan Garrison Mess. Commonly known among  Multanis, by its' old name 'services club'), opens up, pool doors for all its' members every 15th of April. The pool is open air, so it works on seasonal basis. From April to September/ October (if weather allows it).  Last year, the pool remained open, only till May, after that, it was shut down for renovations & could not be reopened because of the 'dengue' scare. MGM pool has always been, undoubtedly the biggest & the best in this city, with an excellent filtration plant to boast & an extremely dedicated team of military men as workers, for maintaining th...

Annual debates at SOS Herman Gmeiner school

Glimpses from the event When you first visit SOS Herman Gmeiner school Multan, you are amazed by its majestic architectural design, beautifully decorated class rooms, functional libraries, meticulously pruned playgrounds, clean walkways and glistening environment. You look at the well mannered, disciplined, full of smiles students, extremely efficient staff members, all this makes you believe that this must be a high end school. To be honest, it is equally great in all its standards. Rather better in some, as they have Rosetta Stone library, through its audio/video English learning methods, children of this school have acquired exceptional accents and perfect pronunciations. Each student has access to laptop in computer class, their teachers use smartboard alongwith blackboard. Even their teachers are assessed and guided with the help of executive committee members. There is a subject of  'general knowledge', which is based on the colorful books in their library, it requires th...

Leading lady of Multan Mrs. Farrukh Mukhtar

Mrs. Farrukh Mukhtar Mrs. Farrukh Mukhtar is a name synonymous with women empowerment in entire South Punjab. She is a living proof of the saying, 'empowered women, empower other women'. She became a member of Majlis-e-shurra of Pakistan and served at that position from 1982 to 1985 and dedicated herself for the betterment of underprivileged women of South Punjab.  Mrs. Farrukh Mukhtar was fully aware of the talents of the women of this area and knew how their skills were exploited at home and at work. She was determined to uplift and raise their standards of living, through education and trainings. She was among first people to ever demand a separate university for the girls of Multan and remained persistent about it. Finally, it bore fruit, three decades later, in form of women's university Multan.  Not just education, but she has worked for the social and economic empowerment of the women too. She is the president of Ladies club Multan. A social platform, which exists fo...
