Aliha Gardezi's hi-tea. FMS' committee party.

The sun is perched at its' highest peak, these days in Multan, giving birth to the hot, dry climate,  this city is actually known for. But an amazing fact is; the ultimate relief from heat, is brought by another notorious feature about the climatic conditions of this land, the dust storms. Thundering strong winds, suspend moisture free dust in the air, carpet all the floors with it, but bring down the temperatures to surprising degrees, often inviting clouds & rains.

Here, the author of this blog, would like to relate a personal experience. As a child, she had heard stories by her maternal grand mother, about princesses, who were so beautiful, that evil genies, witch doctors, or monsters, would fall in love with them. & in order to get married to them, abducted or captured them. There was always a special description of the arrival of the genie, ghost or monster, whatever you may choose to call them. A dust storm, followed by thunder & lightning, heralded the arrival of such evil characters. This scene was so deeply imprinted on the mind & heart of this writer & even more stronger was the belief, that she, herself was a beautiful princess, that genies would fall in love with. So, all her childhood, every time, there was a 'dust' or 'thunder' storm, she feared that a monster was coming to abduct her.

Anyway!! Back to Multan and its' atmospheric conditions. So all the heat, cannot beat, the partying spirit of Multani'ites. Though, things are going slow, but are still going on.

This month, it was Aliha Gardezi's & Sadia Baloch's turn to host a party in FMS committee, but Aliha had to arrange it, at her own, as Sadia was out of town. Aliha hosted a hi-tea, at Ramada Multan. The major characteristic of this party was, that majority of the members were dressed in neon colours, specially Yellow & Orange. The host herself looked bright & beautiful in neon Yellow. She entertained, all the ladies beautifully with smiles & fantastic hospitality. Relaxed & casual, the ladies had a wonderful time & enjoyed the variety of dishes, Ramada had in special menu for the hi-tea. Congratulations Aliha, you proved yourself a wonderful hostess, another time.

M.G.M. Swimming pool.

View of the domes of MGM bulding from inside the pool. The crystal clear blue water. Chairs lined up for the spectators. Little pool for the toddlers. Summer is finally here, although, the weather still turns unpredictable at times. But still, one feels like taking a dip in the cool, cool water of a crystal clear pool.  M.G.M (Multan Garrison Mess. Commonly known among  Multanis, by its' old name 'services club'), opens up, pool doors for all its' members every 15th of April. The pool is open air, so it works on seasonal basis. From April to September/ October (if weather allows it).  Last year, the pool remained open, only till May, after that, it was shut down for renovations & could not be reopened because of the 'dengue' scare. MGM pool has always been, undoubtedly the biggest & the best in this city, with an excellent filtration plant to boast & an extremely dedicated team of military men as workers, for maintaining th...

Leading lady of Multan Mrs. Farrukh Mukhtar

Mrs. Farrukh Mukhtar Mrs. Farrukh Mukhtar is a name synonymous with women empowerment in entire South Punjab. She is a living proof of the saying, 'empowered women, empower other women'. She became a member of Majlis-e-shurra of Pakistan and served at that position from 1982 to 1985 and dedicated herself for the betterment of underprivileged women of South Punjab.  Mrs. Farrukh Mukhtar was fully aware of the talents of the women of this area and knew how their skills were exploited at home and at work. She was determined to uplift and raise their standards of living, through education and trainings. She was among first people to ever demand a separate university for the girls of Multan and remained persistent about it. Finally, it bore fruit, three decades later, in form of women's university Multan.  Not just education, but she has worked for the social and economic empowerment of the women too. She is the president of Ladies club Multan. A social platform, which exists fo...

Celebration of Saraiki culture

Uzma Burana hosting her show Multan is one of the few places on earth, where Saraiki is regarded a native language.  As this city is considered a parallel civilization to Rome; Saraiki is often compared to French language in sweetness, softness and beauty. It has a strange poetic quality about it. This language is widely spoken in entire South of Punjab and at the bordering areas in Sindh, Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtoonkhwah. Richness of Saraiki heritage and culture can flabbergast those, who are unaware of it. Vibrance of colours, ethnic touch, elegance wrapped in austerity, these characteristics truly elevate Saraiki handicrafts from rest of the world. Here, everything can be hand embroidered. Apparel, shoes, beddings, wall hangings, table to foot mats. You name it and Saraiki people would present to you an article dripping with colour, shimmer and originality. Artefacts made of camel skin, mirror work, miniatures, paintings, mosaic. Truly hand made, from beginni...
