Farewel to Aviators' wives

Elegance personified, Dr. Qamar Khushi Ejaz.

The military of any country, is an entire world in itself. With its own set of traditions, lifestyle and a unique culture. Pakistan army, the pride of our soil, is not any different. Where it provides, the gentlemen (and now women as well),  the opportunities to serve and protect their motherland. It also provides them and their families, a high class social life.

As we all know, there is a time period, a tenure for every post held by an army person. Almost every two, to two and a half years, an officer has to say goodbye to the place he/ she has stayed for so long and then, has to move on to some new destination. This lifestyle has given birth to the traditions of arranging 'welcomes' and 'farewells' for their fellow workers and their families.

On 22nd August 2013, one such farewell was arranged by, the aviators' wives club, for the outgoing members, Mrs. Khadija Tariq, Mrs. Rubina Iftikhar and Mrs. Tahira Butt. The venue was Aviation Mess. Chief guest of the event, was Dr. Qamar Khushi Ejaz, wife of the commander aviation, Multan. The program was conducted by Saima Nadeem, who entertained the guests with jokes and kept them engaged in little fun activities, like passing the parcel, musical chairs, etc. Different members were invited to come on the stage and deliver few words, in respect of outgoing members. All the ladies, had a wonderful time and the venue remained filled with laughter and pleasant time.

Talking about their stay at Multan, the outgoing members had nothing but wonderful memories to relate to. There is a famous myth in Pakistan army about the city of saints, that 'people cry when they come here and cry when they leave this place'. It can be explained as; when army officers and their families, hear of their transfer to this city, they lament over, at the prospect of arrival at such a simple, plain city. But when they spend some years here, they fall in love with this land. And it becomes, even more painful to leave this city. Multan is a true love, only if you have a loving heart.

Back to the ceremony again: Finally, a prize distribution ceremony was organized.  The chief guest, Dr.Qamar Khushi , gave away the prizes, to the winners of the games and also shields of remembrance to the members, for whom, this farewell was conducted. At the end, a very formal hi-tea was hosted for all the members. And the event came to an end.

Annual debates at SOS Herman Gmeiner school

Glimpses from the event When you first visit SOS Herman Gmeiner school Multan, you are amazed by its majestic architectural design, beautifully decorated class rooms, functional libraries, meticulously pruned playgrounds, clean walkways and glistening environment. You look at the well mannered, disciplined, full of smiles students, extremely efficient staff members, all this makes you believe that this must be a high end school. To be honest, it is equally great in all its standards. Rather better in some, as they have Rosetta Stone library, through its audio/video English learning methods, children of this school have acquired exceptional accents and perfect pronunciations. Each student has access to laptop in computer class, their teachers use smartboard alongwith blackboard. Even their teachers are assessed and guided with the help of executive committee members. There is a subject of  'general knowledge', which is based on the colorful books in their library, it requires th

M.G.M. Swimming pool.

View of the domes of MGM bulding from inside the pool. The crystal clear blue water. Chairs lined up for the spectators. Little pool for the toddlers. Summer is finally here, although, the weather still turns unpredictable at times. But still, one feels like taking a dip in the cool, cool water of a crystal clear pool.  M.G.M (Multan Garrison Mess. Commonly known among  Multanis, by its' old name 'services club'), opens up, pool doors for all its' members every 15th of April. The pool is open air, so it works on seasonal basis. From April to September/ October (if weather allows it).  Last year, the pool remained open, only till May, after that, it was shut down for renovations & could not be reopened because of the 'dengue' scare. MGM pool has always been, undoubtedly the biggest & the best in this city, with an excellent filtration plant to boast & an extremely dedicated team of military men as workers, for maintaining th

Leading lady of Multan Mrs. Farrukh Mukhtar

Mrs. Farrukh Mukhtar Mrs. Farrukh Mukhtar is a name synonymous with women empowerment in entire South Punjab. She is a living proof of the saying, 'empowered women, empower other women'. She became a member of Majlis-e-shurra of Pakistan and served at that position from 1982 to 1985 and dedicated herself for the betterment of underprivileged women of South Punjab.  Mrs. Farrukh Mukhtar was fully aware of the talents of the women of this area and knew how their skills were exploited at home and at work. She was determined to uplift and raise their standards of living, through education and trainings. She was among first people to ever demand a separate university for the girls of Multan and remained persistent about it. Finally, it bore fruit, three decades later, in form of women's university Multan.  Not just education, but she has worked for the social and economic empowerment of the women too.
