Azka Rani's birthday by Mala and Ahsan Rasheed

Happy birthday Azka Rani and family.

Shimaila Jabeen (Mala Ahsan, as she is lovingly known by the natives of the city of saints) has already been declared, the 'QUEEN'of themed birthday parties by FarihaMunirShahTimes.

But carrying on this title is not an easy task. With four birthdays to celebrate in an year,
only for her children. It requires a constant exploration of innovative ideas and unusual themes.

Something which has not been repeated earlier either by the family, or even by friends.

It is easier for her to pick themes for her son, as Anas Rasheed is the only boy of the family.
But for the three girls, Mala, alongwith her husband Ahsan Rasheed,
seriously has to search throughout the year.

Fond of detailing that she is,
Mala takes great pains, in collecting items to suit the themes.
Sometimes, the stuff is directly ordered from outside the country.
And sometimes, she visits remote, rustic areas of ordinary villages for her perfecting her party.

Azka Rani, is her daughter youngest daughter. By chance, Azka's birthday arrives in the most
chilled weather, on 10th of January and it becomes a very challenging task for Mala to tackle.

But this year, again Mala found an unusual theme, a Christmas birthday party.
So, a perfect setting was laid to compliment it.

A Christmas tree, baloons everywhere, fairy lights. Even powder was dusted on plants
and floor to add a touch of snow. Candles and flower arrangements are the
usual part of the show for her parties.

Friends of Azka and her siblings were told to arrive, wearing winter dresses, to match with
the Christmas theme.

Lots of games, music, alongwith a magic show and a scrumptious meal, was arranged
to entertain the little guests and few of their moms.

A catwalk was also arranged for the little girls in the party to provide them todisplay
their dressing. Hajra Shah, won the first prize in it.

The whole party turned out to be a an extra ordinary piece of entertainment of everybody
who attended it.

Once again, the family did a great job in organizing a perfect event. Lots of prayers and
best wishes for the birthday girl. And like always, we look forward to more by this
fun loving family.

M.G.M. Swimming pool.

View of the domes of MGM bulding from inside the pool. The crystal clear blue water. Chairs lined up for the spectators. Little pool for the toddlers. Summer is finally here, although, the weather still turns unpredictable at times. But still, one feels like taking a dip in the cool, cool water of a crystal clear pool.  M.G.M (Multan Garrison Mess. Commonly known among  Multanis, by its' old name 'services club'), opens up, pool doors for all its' members every 15th of April. The pool is open air, so it works on seasonal basis. From April to September/ October (if weather allows it).  Last year, the pool remained open, only till May, after that, it was shut down for renovations & could not be reopened because of the 'dengue' scare. MGM pool has always been, undoubtedly the biggest & the best in this city, with an excellent filtration plant to boast & an extremely dedicated team of military men as workers, for maintaining th...

Leading lady of Multan Mrs. Farrukh Mukhtar

Mrs. Farrukh Mukhtar Mrs. Farrukh Mukhtar is a name synonymous with women empowerment in entire South Punjab. She is a living proof of the saying, 'empowered women, empower other women'. She became a member of Majlis-e-shurra of Pakistan and served at that position from 1982 to 1985 and dedicated herself for the betterment of underprivileged women of South Punjab.  Mrs. Farrukh Mukhtar was fully aware of the talents of the women of this area and knew how their skills were exploited at home and at work. She was determined to uplift and raise their standards of living, through education and trainings. She was among first people to ever demand a separate university for the girls of Multan and remained persistent about it. Finally, it bore fruit, three decades later, in form of women's university Multan.  Not just education, but she has worked for the social and economic empowerment of the women too. Celebration of Saraiki culture

Uzma Burana hosting her show Multan is one of the few places on earth, where Saraiki is regarded a native language.  As this city is considered a parallel civilization to Rome; Saraiki is often compared to French language in sweetness, softness and beauty. It has a strange poetic quality about it. This language is widely spoken in entire South of Punjab and at the bordering areas in Sindh, Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtoonkhwah. Richness of Saraiki heritage and culture can flabbergast those, who are unaware of it. Vibrance of colours, ethnic touch, elegance wrapped in austerity, these characteristics truly elevate Saraiki handicrafts from rest of the world. Here, everything can be hand embroidered. Apparel, shoes, beddings, wall hangings, table to foot mats. You name it and Saraiki people would present to you an article dripping with colour, shimmer and originality. Artefacts made of camel skin, mirror work, miniatures, paintings, mosaic. Truly hand made, from beginni...
