Friends of SOS committee by Mahnaz Fareed and companions

The  three hostesses of the evening,
Freha Ismail, Mahnaz Fareed and Dr. Saleha Bokhari

SOS village and Herman Gmeiner school Multan are two mega living projects, which require day to day maintainence and assistance every minute of the day. An enormous, Herculean task, which no man in the city of saints dared to carry out but instead, a petite, extremely elegant, young lady, gathered her strength and pushed it ahead. It was only Mahnaz Fareed in the begining, who took the initiative with some friends and family members. And today, she is proudly supported by around 200 'friends of SOS', in this cause.

The most successful and regular of all the activities, carried out by the team of Mahnaz Fareed Sheikh for fund raising and keeping people engaged with children of SOS village, is again a committee party circle. In Which, the members contribute a little amount as charity for the children of SOS village.

As this committee is nearing its end.  Mahnaz finally had her turn to host the party on 22nd January 2014, with two of her partners in the committee, Dr. Saleha Pasha and Freeha Ismail.

Together, all of them decided to arrange it at Mahnaz Fareed's own palatial mansion. Which definitely has a better capacity and ambiance, boasted by any restaurant in Multan. And it did not make a difference, if the weather was cold. There were plenty of candles, lit everywhere to add a warm glow to the entire place. But inorder to add to the comfort of the guests, heaters were placed everywhere, inside and outside, in the veranda as well. Where the arrangement for hi-tea as laid. Generous use of flower arrangments also beautified the event.

Never short of ideas, this super woman Mahnaz, planned an extravgant entertainment program, 'The Multan idol', a Karaoke singing competition for her guests to keep them engaged in enjoyment. A Karaoke machine was placed in the majestic dinning hall of her house. Members were told to make two teams and sing in groups together. And that was not all that 'The Multan idol' had to offer. Keeping up the tradition of the idol shows. Three of the members were requested to play the role of judges. Dr. Amna Awaan, Saadia Yaqub and Fariha Munir Shah were bestowed with the honor of being the judges of the evening. Dr. Amna turned out to be the most vocal, ruthless, the worst kind of critic of all the three judges. Indeed, something which everybody enjoyed.

Some important announcements were also made at the occassion, specially about the upcoming fundraiser in February. A superb musical evening with a scrumptious dinner on Saturday, 22nd February. The singers are going to be the famous Sanam Marvi of Coke studio fame and Amanat Ali, the winner of Indian idol. Friends of SOS and others can get the passes by donating some amount as charity for the children of SOS village. It is going to be one of its kind event, with highly selective gathering and splendid arrangement, something not to be missed in any case.

At the end, all the guests were entertainted with an extra superb, extra sumptuos hi-tea, catered by Ramada hotel. Freeha Ismail and Dr. Saleha Bokhari
remained hand in hand with Mahnaz in hosting and entertaining the guests. With so many preety ladies, acting as hostesses, the party had to be of superlative degree.

Thanks a lot ladies for such a fabulous time and great hospitality!!

Annual debates at SOS Herman Gmeiner school

Glimpses from the event When you first visit SOS Herman Gmeiner school Multan, you are amazed by its majestic architectural design, beautifully decorated class rooms, functional libraries, meticulously pruned playgrounds, clean walkways and glistening environment. You look at the well mannered, disciplined, full of smiles students, extremely efficient staff members, all this makes you believe that this must be a high end school. To be honest, it is equally great in all its standards. Rather better in some, as they have Rosetta Stone library, through its audio/video English learning methods, children of this school have acquired exceptional accents and perfect pronunciations. Each student has access to laptop in computer class, their teachers use smartboard alongwith blackboard. Even their teachers are assessed and guided with the help of executive committee members. There is a subject of  'general knowledge', which is based on the colorful books in their library, it requires th

View of the domes of MGM bulding from inside the pool. The crystal clear blue water. Chairs lined up for the spectators. Little pool for the toddlers. Summer is finally here, although, the weather still turns unpredictable at times. But still, one feels like taking a dip in the cool, cool water of a crystal clear pool.  M.G.M (Multan Garrison Mess. Commonly known among  Multanis, by its' old name 'services club'), opens up, pool doors for all its' members every 15th of April. The pool is open air, so it works on seasonal basis. From April to September/ October (if weather allows it).  Last year, the pool remained open, only till May, after that, it was shut down for renovations & could not be reopened because of the 'dengue' scare. MGM pool has always been, undoubtedly the biggest & the best in this city, with an excellent filtration plant to boast & an extremely dedicated team of military men as workers, for maintaining th

Leading lady of Multan Mrs. Farrukh Mukhtar

Mrs. Farrukh Mukhtar Mrs. Farrukh Mukhtar is a name synonymous with women empowerment in entire South Punjab. She is a living proof of the saying, 'empowered women, empower other women'. She became a member of Majlis-e-shurra of Pakistan and served at that position from 1982 to 1985 and dedicated herself for the betterment of underprivileged women of South Punjab.  Mrs. Farrukh Mukhtar was fully aware of the talents of the women of this area and knew how their skills were exploited at home and at work. She was determined to uplift and raise their standards of living, through education and trainings. She was among first people to ever demand a separate university for the girls of Multan and remained persistent about it. Finally, it bore fruit, three decades later, in form of women's university Multan.  Not just education, but she has worked for the social and economic empowerment of the women too.
