AODELL Alumini reunion 2016

Group photo
As soon as you realize that your student life is over, you start missing it. This is the romance of years spent at educational institutes. Those times pass too quickly but the nostalgia lingers on forever. You want to live and relive your student life again. Everything looks fascinating when looked back at with the kaleidoscope of time. This is why the tradition of reunions is cherished. As it is a way to honour your alma mater and to remember, the time spent with friends and other fellow students.

Although AODELL (the organization of alumni of Department of English Language and Literature, Bahauddin Zakria university) is still in incunabulum, unlike the legendary institution it is associated with, but this organization has started to make its mark around the world. As every year since 2013, former students of DELL, BZU gather in the university premises to meet their former fellows, mates and friends to rekindle their precious memories.

To carry on this tradition of reunion, the month of February was selected for the year 2016. The timing of organizing this event, by this department and its old students, seem to be escalating towards the beginning of the year. As its first official party was arranged in April, the next in March and third and the latest one in February. There was another uniqueness about it this time. Previous functions were based on tea or dinners. Whereas, this one was a lunch. Keeping this in mind, the next reunion can be expected to be a breakfast in the month of January. (Just kidding)

On Saturday 27th February, the informal session started at 12.30 pm. Like always, Mr. Amir Hafeez Malik engaged all the guests in little chit chats and fun filled activities. Hassan Muhammad, Syed Mubashir Hashmi,  Sumera Khalil, Rana Akbar TabishAngela Simone Sharpe and Shazia Jabeen Arshad remained actively involved during this part of the show.

Throughout the function, Madam
Ramna Fayyaz was greatly missed. She is among those pioneers, who laid the foundation stone of this association and took great pains to add magical touches of elegance during all the previous gatherings. She also remained a binding source between the department and the former students (as she belonged to both). In her place, Madam Sadia Malik contributed lots of efforts to make this event a success.

The event could not have taken place without the kind patronage of distinguished Head of department, Madam Saiqa Imtiaz. It was her motivation, which encouraged this organization to arrange another successful reunion in the new building of the department. A special thanks to Madam Saiqa for her support. It is due to her that AODELL has established firm roots today.

Before the formal session, lunch was served. A scrumptious variety of sumptuous cuisine was served to the guests. Credit for the arrangement of this goes to Mr. Babar Iqbal. Whereas, Mr. Asif Ansari, Mr. Ashfaq ur Rehman and Mr. Khalid Shabbir Leghari were among those, who were greatly missed at the occasion.

After the lunch, the formal session started in the auditorium. The renowned industrialist Mr. Mughees A. Sheikh was the chief guest, on the basis of being a student of the same department. Although, he has not attained formal education here but his fondness for the subject, made him sit and attend lectures with students.

After recitation of holy Quran, Sir Naveed was invited to address the gathering. He congratulated the organization and the department on arranging another fabulous gathering and invited the chief guest on the stage, who went on to share his thoughts and lifetime experiences with great lessons.

The highlight of this session was a performance of courtroom scene from Shakespeare's drama 'Merchant of Venice'. All the performers of the drama were females, who put on beards and moustaches to play the characters.

There were jokes, funny news and lots of fun filled performances. But the ultimate entertainment remained live singing, which continued, till late in the evening and invited lots of cheering, singing and dancing.

Indeed it was a fabulous show and the participants have already started looking forward to the reunion next year. Till then, wish you all a great life. May God bless you all.

Annual debates at SOS Herman Gmeiner school

Glimpses from the event When you first visit SOS Herman Gmeiner school Multan, you are amazed by its majestic architectural design, beautifully decorated class rooms, functional libraries, meticulously pruned playgrounds, clean walkways and glistening environment. You look at the well mannered, disciplined, full of smiles students, extremely efficient staff members, all this makes you believe that this must be a high end school. To be honest, it is equally great in all its standards. Rather better in some, as they have Rosetta Stone library, through its audio/video English learning methods, children of this school have acquired exceptional accents and perfect pronunciations. Each student has access to laptop in computer class, their teachers use smartboard alongwith blackboard. Even their teachers are assessed and guided with the help of executive committee members. There is a subject of  'general knowledge', which is based on the colorful books in their library, it requires th

View of the domes of MGM bulding from inside the pool. The crystal clear blue water. Chairs lined up for the spectators. Little pool for the toddlers. Summer is finally here, although, the weather still turns unpredictable at times. But still, one feels like taking a dip in the cool, cool water of a crystal clear pool.  M.G.M (Multan Garrison Mess. Commonly known among  Multanis, by its' old name 'services club'), opens up, pool doors for all its' members every 15th of April. The pool is open air, so it works on seasonal basis. From April to September/ October (if weather allows it).  Last year, the pool remained open, only till May, after that, it was shut down for renovations & could not be reopened because of the 'dengue' scare. MGM pool has always been, undoubtedly the biggest & the best in this city, with an excellent filtration plant to boast & an extremely dedicated team of military men as workers, for maintaining th

Leading lady of Multan Mrs. Farrukh Mukhtar

Mrs. Farrukh Mukhtar Mrs. Farrukh Mukhtar is a name synonymous with women empowerment in entire South Punjab. She is a living proof of the saying, 'empowered women, empower other women'. She became a member of Majlis-e-shurra of Pakistan and served at that position from 1982 to 1985 and dedicated herself for the betterment of underprivileged women of South Punjab.  Mrs. Farrukh Mukhtar was fully aware of the talents of the women of this area and knew how their skills were exploited at home and at work. She was determined to uplift and raise their standards of living, through education and trainings. She was among first people to ever demand a separate university for the girls of Multan and remained persistent about it. Finally, it bore fruit, three decades later, in form of women's university Multan.  Not just education, but she has worked for the social and economic empowerment of the women too. She is the president of Ladies club Multan. A social platform, which exists fo
