Charity auction by friends of SOS Multan

The hostesses, Marium Farrukh, Kiran Dogar, Saima Salman, Fariha Munir, Hajra Rabnawaz, Farah Karim, Shahnaz Iqbal

Friends of SOS Multan are well reputed for implementing new and unique ideas. For the month of March, they came up with another fabulous plan. As two of the girls from SOS village were about to get married. It was decided to arrange a charity auction to raise the fund for dowries. Fashion designers within the friends of SOS were asked, if they were willing to donate their brand new clothes for the cause.

Mahnaz Fareed Sheikh the chair person of SOS Multan, put all her contacts with designers in Lahore and Karachi to use for the purpose and was successful in bagging plenty of contributions. Ayesha Khurram, Calzoom, Nida Azwer, Arjumand Bano, gladly donated remarkable pieces. Whereas, among those from the city of saints, Masooma Sibtain (of Trends and Zubia Zainab) was first to send extremely beautiful, formal, heavily worked dresses. Hajra Rabnawaz (who was also among hostesses of this party) stole everybody's hearts with her amazing creations. Whereas, president of women's chamber of commerce Multan, Mrs. Naseem Akhtar and vice president Filza Akbar were among donors too. Another contribution came from 'Rudaad'.

'The Little Cake Company by Zahra Shah' also gifted cupcakes for the cause.

The group which hosted this event is indeed commendable. Farah Karim Khwaja, Mariam Farrukh, Kiran Dogar, Saima Salman, Hajra Rabnawaz, Shahnaz Iqbal, Shazia Jabeen, Uzma Khar, all of them are new entrants among friends of SOS. Fariha Munir was the only one associated with this noble cause from the beginning. When this group was requested to host the party, they willingly agreed to everything the organisers suggested. And showed great spirit in bidding also. Most of them won different items in bidding and helped raise funds for the brides to be. We admire their spirit and co-operation.

The auction took place on 18th March, at Ramada hotel Multan. One of the hostesses, Kiran Dogar started the show with narrating a 'hadith' of holy prophet Muhammed (peace be upon him) about philanthropy. Ramen Anees did the comparing. Who else could be a better auctioneer than Mahnaz Fareed. She kept the whole process exciting. She had created and arranged profiles of the contributors and designers in slides and before displaying the materials for bidding, provided brief introduction of each of them. Rameen Anees and Hania Shahid bought the most expensive pieces. Contenders kept shouting in excitement and the bidding turned real fun.

It was not all. Rameen Anees introduced everybody with a new idea, 'make a wish come true', suggested by Eesha Faisal. Friends of SOS were all invited to participate in it, to make the wishes of SOS children come true. Ramla proved to be the first drop of rain, she agreed to fulfil the wishlist of all selected children. Ramla was gifted the cupcakes in return. At the end, Mahnaz Fareed thanked all the participants and hostesses for their efforts. She announced that they had raised around one lakh and fifty thousands by this auction, for the wedding of two girls from SOS village. The hostesses could not thank the contributors enough, who donated for the cause. They indeed created the entire show.

Finally, hi-tea was served, with the most lavish menu ever seen at Ramada. Which was indeed a superb end to fabulous evening. We congratulate the organisers for putting a wonderful show and also to the hostesses for their generosity and loving spirit.  Friends of SOS Multan are indeed the best philanthropists ever.

Summer is finally here, although, the weather still turns unpredictable at times. But still, one feels like taking a dip in the cool, cool water of a crystal clear pool.  M.G.M (Multan Garrison Mess. Commonly known among  Multanis, by its' old name 'services club'), opens up, pool doors for all its' members every 15th of April. The pool is open air, so it works on seasonal basis. From April to September/ October (if weather allows it).  Last year, the pool remained open, only till May, after that, it was shut down for renovations & could not be reopened because of the 'dengue' scare. MGM pool has always been, undoubtedly the biggest & the best in this city, with an excellent filtration plant to boast & an extremely dedicated team of military men as workers, for maintaining th

Leading lady of Multan Mrs. Farrukh Mukhtar

Mrs. Farrukh Mukhtar Mrs. Farrukh Mukhtar is a name synonymous with women empowerment in entire South Punjab. She is a living proof of the saying, 'empowered women, empower other women'. She became a member of Majlis-e-shurra of Pakistan and served at that position from 1982 to 1985 and dedicated herself for the betterment of underprivileged women of South Punjab.  Mrs. Farrukh Mukhtar was fully aware of the talents of the women of this area and knew how their skills were exploited at home and at work. She was determined to uplift and raise their standards of living, through education and trainings. She was among first people to ever demand a separate university for the girls of Multan and remained persistent about it. Finally, it bore fruit, three decades later, in form of women's university Multan.  Not just education, but she has worked for the social and economic empowerment of the women too. She is the president of Ladies club Multan. A social platform, which exists fo

Annual debates at SOS Herman Gmeiner school

Glimpses from the event When you first visit SOS Herman Gmeiner school Multan, you are amazed by its majestic architectural design, beautifully decorated class rooms, functional libraries, meticulously pruned playgrounds, clean walkways and glistening environment. You look at the well mannered, disciplined, full of smiles students, extremely efficient staff members, all this makes you believe that this must be a high end school. To be honest, it is equally great in all its standards. Rather better in some, as they have Rosetta Stone library, through its audio/video English learning methods, children of this school have acquired exceptional accents and perfect pronunciations. Each student has access to laptop in computer class, their teachers use smartboard alongwith blackboard. Even their teachers are assessed and guided with the help of executive committee members. There is a subject of  'general knowledge', which is based on the colorful books in their library, it requires th
