Friends of SOS celebrate winter with fur and velvet

Naema Mehdi, Nadia Amir, Mala Ahsan and Dr. Munaza, few of the hostesses

Multan is known for its hot weather throughout the country, but little do majority of people know that winters here are as intense, as the summers are, and it is because it is located close to the border of Balochistan. Just 80 km away from a hill station called Fort Monroe. So, it provides you a fair chance to wear fur, coats, long shoes and velvets, from November till February. That was exactly what the hostesses of the friends of SOS committee planned for their party in January 2018. Mala Ahsan, Naema Mehdi, Nadia Amir, Dr. Zahida, Dr. Munaza, Novaira Khakwani and rest of their group, decided to hold a 'fur and velvet party. Friends of SOS were requested to wear them to attend the party.

That was not all. The main organizer of the event, Mala Ahsan, went on to add snow (which Multan lacks in winter, despite the cold). Refined cotton was used to add the effect. It was spread everywhere, on table tops, on the floor and around. Giant snow flakes, made out of paper were also part of decorations, attached to the pillars, hanging from the roofs etc.  Oh yeah! Who can forget, the adorable snow bear placed at the entrance to complete the wintery, snowy look. Candles, flower arrangements, enhanced the charms of the beautiful restaurant Lahore Chatkhara Multan branch, the perfect venue for the party. Throughout the program, all the hostesses remained actively engaged in extending their hospitality. They seemed to be in a mood of providing everybody a chance of enjoying themselves and having lots of fun. They not only looked good but encouraged everybody to dress up immaculately.

There were plenty of games to entertain the guests. Prizes for those who wore fur and velvet together and appeared the best carrying this theme perfectly. Rabia Rehman, Ambreen Abbas, Tehmina Munir and Afshan Asif were selected to participate and according to voters, Rabia Rehman and Tehmina Munir, both were declared winners for the first prize. Very well deserved indeed. Then, there was another interesting game of unshelling or removing skin of Pinus Gerardiana (commonly known as chilgoza). A lot of cheering took place, while participants used their hands and nails to uncover chilgozas. It was a lot of fun.  Finally, a game of tambola took place. Fariha Munir conducted it and had participants rolling in laughter by adding funny remarks. Everybody thoroughly enjoyed all the games and had a wonderful time.

Rameen Anis gave a presentation about the activities and new projects being carried on, at SOS village. She thanked all the friends of SOS and said, even a small contributions by them, make a lot of difference in the lives of children of SOS. They are providing great help in educating these children, building their careers and imparting a chance for a better tommorrow.

Haniya Shahid, not only manages and conducts this committee but is the co-owner, alongwith Itrat Gillani, of this restaurant Lahore Chatkhara Multan branch too. Haniya announced, as this committee has completed its circle, the next party in February is going to be the last one. The new committee group for the year 2018-19 will start in March. So, if new members want to join, they are most welcome.

At the end, a scrumptious, sumptuous treat was served. The menu was lavish and the display was exquisite. Thanks a lot to all the hostesses, specially Mala Ahsan and Nadia Amer for toiling and hard work, to give everybody a great time. Also, a lot of thanks to this noble cause of SOS, which is working as a catalyst in production of such activities with such a sacred purpose at the back. Keep up the great work!

Summer is finally here, although, the weather still turns unpredictable at times. But still, one feels like taking a dip in the cool, cool water of a crystal clear pool.  M.G.M (Multan Garrison Mess. Commonly known among  Multanis, by its' old name 'services club'), opens up, pool doors for all its' members every 15th of April. The pool is open air, so it works on seasonal basis. Leading lady of Multan Mrs. Farrukh Mukhtar

Mrs. Farrukh Mukhtar Mrs. Farrukh Mukhtar is a name synonymous with women empowerment in entire South Punjab. She is a living proof of the saying, 'empowered women, empower other women'. She became a member of Majlis-e-shurra of Pakistan and served at that position from 1982 to 1985 and dedicated herself for the betterment of underprivileged women of South Punjab.  Mrs. Farrukh Mukhtar was fully aware of the talents of the women of this area and knew how their skills were exploited at home and at work. She was determined to uplift and raise their standards of living, through education and trainings. She was among first people to ever demand a separate university for the girls of Multan and remained persistent about it. Annual debates at SOS Herman Gmeiner school

Glimpses from the event When you first visit SOS Herman Gmeiner school Multan, you are amazed by its majestic architectural design, beautifully decorated class rooms, functional libraries, meticulously pruned playgrounds, clean walkways and glistening environment. You look at the well mannered, disciplined, full of smiles students, extremely efficient staff members, all this makes you believe that this must be a high end school. To be honest, it is equally great in all its standards. Rather better in some, as they have Rosetta Stone library, through its audio/video English learning methods, children of this school have acquired exceptional accents and perfect pronunciations. Each student has access to laptop in computer class, their teachers use smartboard alongwith blackboard. Even their teachers are assessed and guided with the help of executive committee members. There is a subject of  'general knowledge', which is based on the colorful books in their library, it requires th
