Race gala at SOS village Multan September

Twinkle twinkle, little SOS stars

An extraordinary event was planned by 'friends of SOS' for September committee party. Birthday celebrations of all children at SOS, born in September, alongwith a wonderful race gala for  children of all ages at SOS village.

The staff at SOS village had done a superb job. Baloons, buntings, flags, whistles, even lines were marked for race tracks at the venue. The weather turned amazing. Clouds and winds, transformed the evening to a beauty. Everyone was expecting a wonderful evening. Then all of a sudden, it started to rain cats and dogs. Watering all the plans and preparations.

The CEO of SOS village, Mahnaz Fareed did not want the birthday children to get disappointed. So, as suggested by Haniya Shahid, this outdoor show was changed to indoor games and activities. Other hostesses were enthusiastic too, they carried on the spirit and managed to reach the venue in time. Proving that, come rain or storm, they were there to support the noble cause of SOS.

The birthday children were all dressed beautifully, with smiles to match. The games started with musical chairs and the excitement among the participants was a delight to witness. Some of them simply refused to get up from the chair and some decided, not to sit at all. Anyway, in a little while, they perfected the game and showed, great sportsman spirit.

Then cakes were cut. All the cakes for the birthday children, were gifted by Haniya Shahid. Whereas, Mariam Farrukh gifted their desired birthday presents to the children.

Then there were other games too. Including, passing the parcel and tug O' war. Which took place between Mahnaz Fareed and Samreen Zeeshan as the leaders. Samreen's team proved to be so strong, they dragged Mahnaz, alongwith all its members from one end to the other end of the lobby. The celebration of its victory was a sight to behold.

Finally, all the children/ participants were invited to sing a song, narrate a story, share a joke or their favorite verse. Haniya Shahid and Rameen Anis took the mic to every child and encouraged them to take part. Many of the children quoted verses, to show their love and regards for Mahnaz Fareed.

Yet, the most amazing part of the show was Bakhtawar's singing. A lovely and extremely talented girl child of SOS village. Who has shown great results and proven her skills at SOS school and village Multan. Her singng was aired 'live' in Facebook group ' I ❤️ Multan'  and it was breathtaking. It attracted hundreds of comments of admirations and thousands of views.

Dring this 'live session', Dr. Aasiya and other participants were also requested to share their views and they expressed the joy of being at SOS village. It turned out to be a superb event, thoroughly enjoyed by everybody.

The hostesses included, Haniya Shahid, Afsheen Babbar, Samreen Zeeshan, Hafza Bokhari, Shaherbano Raza, Maryam Farrukh, Rabia Abdul Wahid, Hina Babbar and Fariha Munir. Everybody tried to play their role according to their capabilities

Well done team SOS, for the zeal and enthusiasm. We wish, this zeal and spirit continues now. No Covid or any such thing ever effect this wonderous cause carried on by you people. God bless you all and SOS village Multan.

M.G.M. Swimming pool.

View of the domes of MGM bulding from inside the pool. The crystal clear blue water. Chairs lined up for the spectators. Little pool for the toddlers. Summer is finally here, although, the weather still turns unpredictable at times. But still, one feels like taking a dip in the cool, cool water of a crystal clear pool.  M.G.M (Multan Garrison Mess. Commonly known among  Multanis, by its' old name 'services club'), opens up, pool doors for all its' members every 15th of April. The pool is open air, so it works on seasonal basis. From April to September/ October (if weather allows it).  Last year, the pool remained open, only till May, after that, it was shut down for renovations & could not be reopened because of the 'dengue' scare. MGM pool has always been, undoubtedly the biggest & the best in this city, with an excellent filtration plant to boast & an extremely dedicated team of military men as workers, for maintaining th...

Annual debates at SOS Herman Gmeiner school

Glimpses from the event When you first visit SOS Herman Gmeiner school Multan, you are amazed by its majestic architectural design, beautifully decorated class rooms, functional libraries, meticulously pruned playgrounds, clean walkways and glistening environment. You look at the well mannered, disciplined, full of smiles students, extremely efficient staff members, all this makes you believe that this must be a high end school. To be honest, it is equally great in all its standards. Rather better in some, as they have Rosetta Stone library, through its audio/video English learning methods, children of this school have acquired exceptional accents and perfect pronunciations. Each student has access to laptop in computer class, their teachers use smartboard alongwith blackboard. Even their teachers are assessed and guided with the help of executive committee members. There is a subject of  'general knowledge', which is based on the colorful books in their library, it requires th...

Leading lady of Multan Mrs. Farrukh Mukhtar

Mrs. Farrukh Mukhtar Mrs. Farrukh Mukhtar is a name synonymous with women empowerment in entire South Punjab. She is a living proof of the saying, 'empowered women, empower other women'. She became a member of Majlis-e-shurra of Pakistan and served at that position from 1982 to 1985 and dedicated herself for the betterment of underprivileged women of South Punjab.  Mrs. Farrukh Mukhtar was fully aware of the talents of the women of this area and knew how their skills were exploited at home and at work. She was determined to uplift and raise their standards of living, through education and trainings. She was among first people to ever demand a separate university for the girls of Multan and remained persistent about it. Finally, it bore fruit, three decades later, in form of women's university Multan.  Not just education, but she has worked for the social and economic empowerment of the women too.
