Rang de basanti for Sobia by friends of SOS

Glimpses of the event

When SOS village Multan takes children under its roof, it is a lifetime  commitment. From the day of arrival, till the day, they are old enough to leave. Even then, they are not thrown away into the world, but efforts are made to establish them in their lives. Alongwith education and skills to earn their living, they are helped with job search and work opportunities. For girls, SOS village goes an extra mile and arranges their weddings, according to their choice. Friends of SOS are also always there to support such causes.

In October 2022, another daughter of SOS, Sobia was to embark on the journey of marital life. Luckily, the next 'friends of SOS committee' was to be hosted by a great, fun loving group of ladies. When Tasbiha Sarfraz, one of the hostesses heard of Sobia's wedding, she suggested to dedicate their event to a dholki theme, 'rang de basanti', to celebrate the occasion. All her group members and the other hostesses of this event, Afshan Waseem, Asma Nadeem, Saima Sarwar, Iram Mansoor, Kiran Rashid, Mona Shahid, Riffat Abid, Rukhsana Naeem, Shahnaz Sami, gladly agreed to the arrangement.

Tasbiha had everything planned. The venue selected was Ramada hotel Multan. Props and decorations, she already had plenty at home, which were beautifully incorporated at the event. Lights, music, dholaki, dance floor, everything to mark the festivity was there, but Tasbiha wanted more of entertainment. So she invited a group of 'lok raks' dancers, with the grand dhol.

'Rang de basanti', as the name suggested, was supposed to be a bright colourful party. So all the guests were invited to wear bright and beautiful, formal wedding wear and jewellery. Which was enthusiastically followed by all the participants.

Also, the SOS girls, who were friends with Sobia, the bride to be, were invited to the occasion and they arrived, looking terrific, ready to participate in the joyful event and gave a breathtaking performance.

First of all, all of them sang songs over the beat of dholki, which was played by Afshan Waseem like an expert. Then there were some dance performances by friends of Sobia. Ludi, bhangra started at the beat of 'grand dol and lok virsa performers'. Everybody enjoyed that and took part in this fun filled activity.

Mahnaz Fareed addressed the gathering at the end. She thanked everyone, specially the hostesses for all their efforts to make the evening memorable for all. She said, even the smallest of contributions mean a lot for SOS village and she is truly touched by the care shown by friends of SOS.

At the end, a scrumptious hi-tea was served an this beautiful evening came to an end. Congratulations to all the hostesses for arranging a fabulous party. We look forward to seeing more fun in the future.

Summer is finally here, although, the weather still turns unpredictable at times. But still, one feels like taking a dip in the cool, cool water of a crystal clear pool.  M.G.M (Multan Garrison Mess. Commonly known among  Multanis, by its' old name 'services club'), opens up, pool doors for all its' members every 15th of April. The pool is open air, so it works on seasonal basis. From April to September/ October (if weather allows it).  Last year, the pool remained open, only till May, after that, it was shut down for renovations & could not be reopened because of the 'dengue' scare. MGM pool has always been, undoubtedly the biggest & the best in this city, with an excellent filtration plant to boast & an extremely dedicated team of military men as workers, for maintaining th

Leading lady of Multan Mrs. Farrukh Mukhtar

Mrs. Farrukh Mukhtar Mrs. Farrukh Mukhtar is a name synonymous with women empowerment in entire South Punjab. She is a living proof of the saying, 'empowered women, empower other women'. She became a member of Majlis-e-shurra of Pakistan and served at that position from 1982 to 1985 and dedicated herself for the betterment of underprivileged women of South Punjab.  Mrs. Farrukh Mukhtar was fully aware of the talents of the women of this area and knew how their skills were exploited at home and at work. She was determined to uplift and raise their standards of living, through education and trainings. She was among first people to ever demand a separate university for the girls of Multan and remained persistent about it. Finally, it bore fruit, three decades later, in form of women's university Multan.  Not just education, but she has worked for the social and economic empowerment of the women too. She is the president of Ladies club Multan. A social platform, which exists fo

Annual debates at SOS Herman Gmeiner school

Glimpses from the event When you first visit SOS Herman Gmeiner school Multan, you are amazed by its majestic architectural design, beautifully decorated class rooms, functional libraries, meticulously pruned playgrounds, clean walkways and glistening environment. You look at the well mannered, disciplined, full of smiles students, extremely efficient staff members, all this makes you believe that this must be a high end school. To be honest, it is equally great in all its standards. Rather better in some, as they have Rosetta Stone library, through its audio/video English learning methods, children of this school have acquired exceptional accents and perfect pronunciations. Each student has access to laptop in computer class, their teachers use smartboard alongwith blackboard. Even their teachers are assessed and guided with the help of executive committee members. There is a subject of  'general knowledge', which is based on the colorful books in their library, it requires th
