FMS Committee meetup at Fariha Munir's place

FMS committee members collage

Due to great public demand, FMS committee circle restarted on 1st February 2024. As the general elections 2024 were nearing, everyone tried to wrap their social activities before something unexpected happened.

New committee group consists of the members, who were already a part of the previous bunch. Some, who wished to join it previously but could not, as the members already there wanted to keep it short. In this turn too, many learned later and wished to join but Fariha Munir Shah, who runs this committee thanked them for their love and apologized, she said otherwise this would go on forever.

The venue was Fariha Munir's house, Al-Makhdoom. She believes, there is a personalized touch of care and convenience when get togethers for ladies are conducted in the homely atmosphere. The host does not have to rush anywhere and delightfully welcomes the guests at home. Also, the pardah observing ladies do not have to worry about it, as catering is mostly carried out by the female house helpers at home. Fariha is grateful to Allah for providing her a majestic house, where she keeps on adding adornments time after time, so she likes her friends to visit and have a good time with her and what is better an event than arranging a committee party, what she is going to manage.

It was an informal hi-tea plan. No serious themes selected, just a casual meetup and chit chat over munching. Everyone turned up looking at their best. Although, it was not a one dish party but Mahwish Abdulhaq, a distinguished member brought a massive serving of 'mutanjan' (the sweet rice) generously loaded with dry fruits and sweetmeats. It turned out to be the star of the desi cuisine and everybody loved it.

As February 12th is Fariha Munir's birthday, but she had plans to travel abroad on the date later, so her baker daughter, the owner of The little cake company by Zahra Shah surprised her with a resplendent tall Lambeth style snickers cake, alongwith lots of French macrons which are her specialty. Guests were amazed by the taste and quality, the magic of Zahra Shah's excellent baking skills.

Aasma Salman brought the delicious biscuits and tea cakes from the latest, most happening bakery in town called 'Raheem bakehouse' that she is an owner of, which Fariha's family enjoyed for many days. Alongwith many ther gifts, Aasma Khan brought the most delectable 'Sohan halwa' ever. It was so delicious, it was taken into home police custody by Dr. Munir Shah, so that Fariha does not over eat it.

Kiran Doggar, Freeha Ismail, Dr. Munazza Nasir, Rabia Bosan, Sobia Rizwan, Aasma Khan, Sarrah Bilal, Hafsah Ali Siddiqui, Uzma Gillani, Aasma Salman, Mona Gillani, Mahwish Abdulhaq, Uzma Khan, Yasmeen Awan and Shazia Arshad were the committee members. Whereas, Mahnaz Amir Sheikh, Masooma Sibtain, Shahnaz Nasir, Rabia Wahid, Mariam Farrukh, Rubina Rauf and Asifa Sajid Siddqui (being the neighbor) were present as friends of Fariha and honorable guests at the event.
Fariha is truly thankful for their presents and the lovely presents they brought along.

Not to forget the three beautiful silent members of this committee, AfshanNoreen Qaisrani, Sabahat Qaisrani from Lahore , who were a part of the previous term as well, now joined by Saima Qaisrani from London, UK. On her joining the committee Rabia Bosan expressed that Afshan and Sabahat's presence made this group national, but with arrival of Saima it has now reached an international. Truly a cute perception.

We hope and expect, a smooth sailing for this cycle, as the previous ones completed with an astounding success. Best of luck and best of times to all the members.

M.G.M. Swimming pool.

View of the domes of MGM bulding from inside the pool. The crystal clear blue water. Chairs lined up for the spectators. Little pool for the toddlers. Summer is finally here, although, the weather still turns unpredictable at times. But still, one feels like taking a dip in the cool, cool water of a crystal clear pool.  M.G.M (Multan Garrison Mess. Commonly known among  Multanis, by its' old name 'services club'), opens up, pool doors for all its' members every 15th of April. The pool is open air, so it works on seasonal basis. From April to September/ October (if weather allows it).  Last year, the pool remained open, only till May, after that, it was shut down for renovations & could not be reopened because of the 'dengue' scare. MGM pool has always been, undoubtedly the biggest & the best in this city, with an excellent filtration plant to boast & an extremely dedicated team of military men as workers, for maintaining th

Leading lady of Multan Mrs. Farrukh Mukhtar

Mrs. Farrukh Mukhtar Mrs. Farrukh Mukhtar is a name synonymous with women empowerment in entire South Punjab. She is a living proof of the saying, 'empowered women, empower other women'. She became a member of Majlis-e-shurra of Pakistan and served at that position from 1982 to 1985 and dedicated herself for the betterment of underprivileged women of South Punjab.  Mrs. Farrukh Mukhtar was fully aware of the talents of the women of this area and knew how their skills were exploited at home and at work. She was determined to uplift and raise their standards of living, through education and trainings. She was among first people to ever demand a separate university for the girls of Multan and remained persistent about it. Finally, it bore fruit, three decades later, in form of women's university Multan.  Not just education, but she has worked for the social and economic empowerment of the women too. She is the president of Ladies club Multan. A social platform, which exists fo

Annual debates at SOS Herman Gmeiner school

Glimpses from the event When you first visit SOS Herman Gmeiner school Multan, you are amazed by its majestic architectural design, beautifully decorated class rooms, functional libraries, meticulously pruned playgrounds, clean walkways and glistening environment. You look at the well mannered, disciplined, full of smiles students, extremely efficient staff members, all this makes you believe that this must be a high end school. To be honest, it is equally great in all its standards. Rather better in some, as they have Rosetta Stone library, through its audio/video English learning methods, children of this school have acquired exceptional accents and perfect pronunciations. Each student has access to laptop in computer class, their teachers use smartboard alongwith blackboard. Even their teachers are assessed and guided with the help of executive committee members. There is a subject of  'general knowledge', which is based on the colorful books in their library, it requires th
