Friends of SOS, Multan.

Saadia Yaqub and Mahnaz Fareed
The two heads of SOS village, Multan.

SOS children's villages; work in almost 132 countries all over the world. The aim behind this private welfare organization, is to provide abandoned children or orphans, an environment possibly close to their normal home. Along with good nurturing; education, security and loving care is provided to children deprived of their parents, till they are able to lead independent lives.

In Multan, SOS village is headed by Mahnaz Fareed; a gorgeous young woman, who has brought this project from simplest of its origin, to the greatest heights. The impressive construction of an entire village for SOS children, Herman Gmeiner school specially meant for children of SOS, speak volumes about the strength of this beautiful young soul. And now, the latest feather in her cap is a 'youth house' for the children of this village, specially boys who reach puberty and require a separate style of raising.

Friends of SOS are among the greatest supporters of all the projects related to this village. There is a regular, monthly committee, which includes 115 members, who donate half of their committee amount, every month, to SOS village. In November, the party was hosted by Huma, Humaira, Madeeha, Mahwish, Qudsia and Tehreem. They arranged an excellent hi-tea for all their members in MUX restaurant. An entire hall was booked for the purpose. The turnover of the members was amazing.

Saadia Yaqub, who is the chairperson of 'friends of SOS', Multan, briefed everybody about the launch of event/ inauguration of the 'youth house', on 10th of December, 2012. An excellent musical evening, with a formal dinner will be arranged. All the members were requested to attend the function. Mahnaz Fareed also emphasized the importance of the presence of maximum friends of SOS, to make this event a memorable occasion.

Summer is finally here, although, the weather still turns unpredictable at times. But still, one feels like taking a dip in the cool, cool water of a crystal clear pool.  M.G.M (Multan Garrison Mess. Commonly known among  Multanis, by its' old name 'services club'), opens up, pool doors for all its' members every 15th of April. The pool is open air, so it works on seasonal basis. Annual debates at SOS Herman Gmeiner school

Glimpses from the event When you first visit SOS Herman Gmeiner school Multan, you are amazed by its majestic architectural design, beautifully decorated class rooms, functional libraries, meticulously pruned playgrounds, clean walkways and glistening environment. You look at the well mannered, disciplined, full of smiles students, extremely efficient staff members, all this makes you believe that this must be a high end school. To be honest, it is equally great in all its standards. Rather better in some, as they have Rosetta Stone library, through its audio/video English learning methods, children of this school have acquired exceptional accents and perfect pronunciations. Each student has access to laptop in computer class, their teachers use smartboard alongwith blackboard. Even their teachers are assessed and guided with the help of executive committee members. There is a subject of  'general knowledge', which is based on the colorful books in their library, it requires th

Mrs. Farrukh Mukhtar Mrs. Farrukh Mukhtar is a name synonymous with women empowerment in entire South Punjab. She is a living proof of the saying, 'empowered women, empower other women'. She became a member of Majlis-e-shurra of Pakistan and served at that position from 1982 to 1985 and dedicated herself for the betterment of underprivileged women of South Punjab.  Mrs. Farrukh Mukhtar was fully aware of the talents of the women of this area and knew how their skills were exploited at home and at work. She was determined to uplift and raise their standards of living, through education and trainings. She was among first people to ever demand a separate university for the girls of Multan and remained persistent about it. Finally, it bore fruit, three decades later, in form of women's university Multan.  Not just education, but she has worked for the social and economic empowerment of the women too.
