April–and all the little winds are blowing
The scents of springtime through the sunny air.

This is the 61st post on this blog. And also marks, the 1st anniversary of FarihaMunirShahTimes. Today, 15th April 2013, this blog completes an year. So, what is a better way to celebrate but to talk about spring and festivities

Here we go.
April in Multan, is a fantastic presentation of tussle of seasons. Winter, seems unwilling to depart. Summer appears too eager to take-over. Spring prevails, with most fascinating colors and enticing fragrances. There is rain one day and sun shinning bright, with whirlpools of little dust storms, the other day.
Surrounded by such bewitching beauty, it is impossible not be touched by it. This often persuades the natives of Multan to hold festivities and rejoice the season.

Featured here are two tales of such celebrations, one took place in Ladies club, Multan. The other one was conducted by the renowned personality of Multan, Dr. Qamar Khushi.

On April, the 8th, a flower arrangement competition was held at Ladies club. As is the norm, it was more of a traditional affair. The judges included the names of Ms. Najma Gillani and Mrs. Kishwar Kaleem. Who selected a beautiful flower arrangement by Syeda Zuria Bokhari for the 1st prize, in fresh flowers category. Whereas, Mrs. Azra Nazeer, stood 1st with her table full of dry flower arrangements. The comparing was done by the program secretary of Ladies club, Mrs. Shagufta Khaksar. The event also included, few indoor games and other
fun filled activities. At the end prize distribution took place. Mrs. Mahnaz Amir, secretary of the club, conducted this part. At the end a formal hi-tea was served.

Following are

Spring celebration by Dr.Qamar Khushi

Qamar needs no introduction. She is much more than being a professor at department of English, Bahauddin Zakria university Multan. She is well loved and well admired by everybody who knows her. Qamar also arranged a party to welcome the spring.

The program, organized by Dr. Qamar Khushi, took place on Saturday, 13th April, at a private venue. Ladies were invited with their children. So, it was a full time happy evening.

Musical chair, passing the parcel and other games were conducted, separately for ladies and the kids. There was also a flowers arrangements competition also. The lush Green lawn, with beautiful canopies and fountains presented a serene scene. Children and flowers, doubled the beauty of it.

At the end, the prize distribution ceremony took place. Qamar gave away the prizes. And all the guests were entertained with a formal hi-tea. It was a lovely evening indeed. We congratulate Qamar for arranging such a beautiful show.

Leading lady of Multan Mrs. Farrukh Mukhtar

Mrs. Farrukh Mukhtar Mrs. Farrukh Mukhtar is a name synonymous with women empowerment in entire South Punjab. She is a living proof of the saying, 'empowered women, empower other women'. She became a member of Majlis-e-shurra of Pakistan and served at that position from 1982 to 1985 and dedicated herself for the betterment of underprivileged women of South Punjab.  Mrs. Farrukh Mukhtar was fully aware of the talents of the women of this area and knew how their skills were exploited at home and at work. She was determined to uplift and raise their standards of living, through education and trainings. She was among first people to ever demand a separate university for the girls of Multan and remained persistent about it. Finally, it bore fruit, three decades later, in form of women's university Multan.  Not just education, but she has worked for the social and economic empowerment of the women too. Annual debates at SOS Herman Gmeiner school

Glimpses from the event When you first visit SOS Herman Gmeiner school Multan, you are amazed by its majestic architectural design, beautifully decorated class rooms, functional libraries, meticulously pruned playgrounds, clean walkways and glistening environment. You look at the well mannered, disciplined, full of smiles students, extremely efficient staff members, all this makes you believe that this must be a high end school. To be honest, it is equally great in all its standards. Rather better in some, as they have Rosetta Stone library, through its audio/video English learning methods, children of this school have acquired exceptional accents and perfect pronunciations. Each student has access to laptop in computer class, their teachers use smartboard alongwith blackboard. Even their teachers are assessed and guided with the help of executive committee members. There is a subject of  'general knowledge', which is based on the colorful books in their library, it requires th
