A patriotic party by friends of SOS

The fabulous hostesses and awesome arrangements

Come September and the nation is gripped by fever of patriotism, reason being defence day, celebrated to commemorate sacrifices made by Pakistani soldiers, during the war of 1965, against India. Not only that Pakistan army, navy and airforce defended borders of the country but also defeated their enemies and made them lick dust. It was an unprovoked surprise attack by India, which was repulsed by the Pakistan Army despite its smaller size and fewer armaments. Pakistanis love their military, they see their heroes in uniforms and always support them. That is why, entire nation goes Green and White to show unity with their armed forces on defence day.

How could friends of SOS let this opportunity pass. Specially when entire country was in state of jubilation, over the fall of decades old political pharaohs, succeeded by PTI and a brand new Prime Minister, Imran Khan. So, the ultimate theme for September party, had to be defence day celebration. The hostesses of the party were, Beena Younas, Afshan Asif, Mrs. Altaf Qureshi, Anum Mohsin, Ayesha Khwaja, Khadija Iqbal, Mehvish Abdul Haq, Mehar Khwaja, Rehana Khwaja, Saba Anees. They requested all their guests to wear Green and White and made great efforts to decorate the party venue, according to 'patriotic theme'.

On 14th September, the day of the party, the guests were amazed to see, already respledent restaurant, London Courtyard, shinning like a bride in Green and White. From flower arrangements, baloon decorations, to food, drinks and desserts, there was an accentuation of patriotic theme. Beena Younas, the group leader for this party and also the owner of this restaurant, is famous for her fondness for party decorations. Everybody who looked at the photo booth and background set for SOS children performance, could tell, the decorater , Khadija Babbar, must have followed her instructions. Generous and kind, as these Khwaja group of ladies are known for, their hospitality spoke itself. Each and everyone of them were busy in entertaining guests.

Saba Anees, the daughter in law of Beena Younas remained actively engaged with her mother in law, as a perfect hostess. They had arranged 'patriotic giveaways' for all the guests, adorned with ribbons, beautiful White and Green mugs with Pakistani flags. There was a table full of props, flags and military caps, for the guests to put them on and take pictures.

Where the hostesses did their best. Children of SOS were not left behind. Mahnaz Fareed had them prepared for the occassion. Dressed in White clothes, Green scarves and caps, they performed like girl guides and boy scouts. They sang along the patriotic, national songs, marched, paraded and danced with the tunes. It got everybody excited and charged, entire place was filled with cheers and slogans. The performance by children of SOS was greatly admired and they were also awarded gifts by Beena Younas and her group.

Mahnaz Fareed thanked the hostesses for their generous support and all the fabulous party arrangements. She also thanked, friends of SOS for always being there and showing great care and support for this noble cause. She described the natives of the city of saints, as the best philanthropists of the world, admired their generosity. Exclaimed, she had started this project as a small venture and today it has grown into multiple extensions, it was not possible for her to do it alone. It was the constant support and spirit of giving of Multanis, which has made SOS such a massive success.

Throughout the party, drinks remained in circulation. At the end a splendid feast awaited everybody in romantic ambiance of the courtyard at the back of the restaurant. We congratulate hostesses of this party to arrange another superb event, also hope and pray for more of such festivities in the future. God bless you all.

She became a member of Majlis-e-shurra of Pakistan and served at that position from 1982 to 1985 and dedicated herself for the betterment of underprivileged women of South Punjab.  Mrs. Farrukh Mukhtar was fully aware of the talents of the women of this area and knew how their skills were exploited at home and at work. She was determined to uplift and raise their standards of living, through education and trainings. She was among first people to ever demand a separate university for the girls of Multan and remained persistent about it. Finally, it bore fruit, three decades later, in form of women's university Multan.  Not just education, but she has worked for the social and economic empowerment of the women too. Annual debates at SOS Herman Gmeiner school

Glimpses from the event When you first visit SOS Herman Gmeiner school Multan, you are amazed by its majestic architectural design, beautifully decorated class rooms, functional libraries, meticulously pruned playgrounds, clean walkways and glistening environment. You look at the well mannered, disciplined, full of smiles students, extremely efficient staff members, all this makes you believe that this must be a high end school. To be honest, it is equally great in all its standards. Rather better in some, as they have Rosetta Stone library, through its audio/video English learning methods, children of this school have acquired exceptional accents and perfect pronunciations. Each student has access to laptop in computer class, their teachers use smartboard alongwith blackboard. Even their teachers are assessed and guided with the help of executive committee members. There is a subject of  'general knowledge', which is based on the colorful books in their library, it requires th
