Hania and group throw Nusrat's mehndi

Bride's photo with the hostesses

Nusrat is a glorious example of the seriousness with which, life of each child at SOS village Multan is handled and shaped. Children are not only provided a roof to live under, but a conducive environment to develop their abilities to learn and achieve remarkable success. Serious efforts are made to establish them in lives. Till boys get a career and girls get married.

Nusrat arrived at SOS village at a very young age, started her studies at Herman Gmeiner school and went on to complete BS financing from BZU recently. She was fortunate to receive a generous and loving sponsor like Hania Shahid. Who took care of her, like her own daughters, with lots of love and care. Encouraged her to study, provided financial and moral support for her upbringing. Once, Nusrat's wedding was fixed, Hania felt as enthusiastic as a real mom for her daughter and planned a big, fat, lavish mehndi function for her.

By chance, it was Hania and her group's turn to party in 'friends of SOS committee'. All her members were thrilled by the idea and showed their willingness to go ahead with it. Seema Amanat, Nida Tahir, Fareeha Ismail, Waseema Tallat, Mariam Farrukh, Sana Ali, Shahida Wadood and Itrat Gillani hailed, 'lab-baik', as Hania referred to them for their support.

The event was arranged on Monday 4th March, at Ramada Hotel Multan. A dance floor was laid, complete with disco lights, music system and beautifully adorned stage. Beautifully dressed, girls from SOS village, which meant friends and family for Nusrat, were all there, alongwith Mrs. Zaman to celebrate the feliticous occassion. Songs were sung, dholak was played and all the friends of SOS joined in the fun.

Mahnaz Fareed and Hania Shahid were all in tears, which clearly explained their emotional attachment to Nusrat and other children at SOS. Mahnaz addressed the gathering and thanked them for their participation and their donations for making it possible. She also admired the love and care Hania had showered for Nusrat, during a longtime of her stay at SOS village and her contributions for the wedding. She said, she wished all the sponsors should take it as an inspiration for supporting the children at SOS.

Mrs. Zaman, the caretaker of all the children at SOS village Multan, described the generosity and kindness of Hania Shahid as a sponsor. The bride to be, Nusrat also thanked everybody and expressed how honored and obliged she felt by these amazing gestures of love and kindness, not expected in this world today.

Hania expressed her utter joy and excitement she felt at the news of Nusrat's wedding. She promised to remain as supportive and loving to her throughout her life. She thanked Sidra Bakhtawar for her personal attention and her parlor 'beauty lounge' for the amazing free make-up for the bride. She went on to thank everyone who contributed and donated for this wedding. Specially Saima Faisal, who had got all the wonderful arrangement done at Ramada.

A formal mehndi ceremony was carried out. Mrs. Fozia Mughees Sheikh was first to give 'salami' and blessings to the bride to be, followed by Mrs. Shahida Bucha, Mrs. Jameeda Malik, others joined in later. Girls of SOS had prepared beautiful dances for the occassion and everybody enjoyed their performances. Hania herself graced the dance floor. Later, it was open for all, all the hostesses performed 'luddi' together. Almost everyone present there was invited to be a part of it. Excitement was high and the dancing continued till the dinner was served.

At the end a lavish dinner was served and this how this memorable evening came to an end. Lots of love and prayers for Nusrat and all those who contributed for her in some way or the other. Also we wish Nusrat, an extremely happy and blessed everafter.

M.G.M. Swimming pool.

View of the domes of MGM bulding from inside the pool. The crystal clear blue water. Chairs lined up for the spectators. Little pool for the toddlers. Summer is finally here, although, the weather still turns unpredictable at times. But still, one feels like taking a dip in the cool, cool water of a crystal clear pool.  M.G.M (Multan Garrison Mess. Commonly known among  Multanis, by its' old name 'services club'), opens up, pool doors for all its' members every 15th of April. The pool is open air, so it works on seasonal basis. From April to September/ October (if weather allows it).  Last year, the pool remained open, only till May, after that, it was shut down for renovations & could not be reopened because of the 'dengue' scare. MGM pool has always been, undoubtedly the biggest & the best in this city, with an excellent filtration plant to boast & an extremely dedicated team of military men as workers, for maintaining th...

Annual debates at SOS Herman Gmeiner school

Glimpses from the event When you first visit SOS Herman Gmeiner school Multan, you are amazed by its majestic architectural design, beautifully decorated class rooms, functional libraries, meticulously pruned playgrounds, clean walkways and glistening environment. You look at the well mannered, disciplined, full of smiles students, extremely efficient staff members, all this makes you believe that this must be a high end school. To be honest, it is equally great in all its standards. Rather better in some, as they have Rosetta Stone library, through its audio/video English learning methods, children of this school have acquired exceptional accents and perfect pronunciations. Each student has access to laptop in computer class, their teachers use smartboard alongwith blackboard. Even their teachers are assessed and guided with the help of executive committee members. There is a subject of  'general knowledge', which is based on the colorful books in their library, it requires th...

Leading lady of Multan Mrs. Farrukh Mukhtar

Mrs. Farrukh Mukhtar Mrs. Farrukh Mukhtar is a name synonymous with women empowerment in entire South Punjab. She is a living proof of the saying, 'empowered women, empower other women'. She became a member of Majlis-e-shurra of Pakistan and served at that position from 1982 to 1985 and dedicated herself for the betterment of underprivileged women of South Punjab.  Mrs. Farrukh Mukhtar was fully aware of the talents of the women of this area and knew how their skills were exploited at home and at work. She was determined to uplift and raise their standards of living, through education and trainings. She was among first people to ever demand a separate university for the girls of Multan and remained persistent about it. Finally, it bore fruit, three decades later, in form of women's university Multan.  Not just education, but she has worked for the social and economic empowerment of the women too. She is the president of Ladies club Multan. A social platform, which exists fo...
