AODELL, BZU reunion 2019

Group photo with HOD and some of the attendees of AODELL reunion 2019

Time flies and leaves behind memories of the times gone by. Humans alter, their personalities diversify, circumstances restructure, but rememberance of what they left behind remains the same. Future can take a thousand shapes but past remains unchanged. Therefore, reunions serve as excellent tool to reminiscence about yester years and to observe what changes, time has brought to all.

AODELL BZU, Alumni organization of department of English language and literature, Bahaudin Zakariya university Multan, came into existence, some years ago in 2012, with the efforts of Madam Ramna Fayyaz , who happened to be, not just an alumna of the same department but became a part of  its permanent faculty as well. Together with some class fellows, she involved in this cause, another senior, Fariha Munir ( who served as visiting faculty there, at that time) and eversince, this process of organizing a reunion, once an year has been going on.

After attending another successful reunion at Ramada hotel in 2018, the Head of department, Dr. Naveed Chaudhary, expressed his wish to main organizers, Mr. Kamran Ali and Fariha Munir that next event should be hosted in the department. Following his directions, these two, went on to create a team with Sumera Khalil, Angela Simone Sharpe, Ramsha Zabta, Mamoona Yasmin, Mr. Mushtaq Kharral, Mr. Javed Iqbal Khan, Mr. Nasurrullah, Mr. Masroor Sibtain and Mr. Amir Hafeez, to plan for the next event.

After lots of meetings, lots of brain-storming. Finally, 9th March was the date decided for holding the reunion at the new department building at BZU. Here, we must mention, a meeting, which was more of a generous treat, hosted by Mr. Kamran Ali, at Jade restaurant Multan for all the organizers. Which not only helped all the organizers meet eachother, but helped motivate them too.

Things started to run smoothly, when the organizers found a sponsor within themselves. Mr. Mushtaq Kharral jumped in and offered to gift all the shields for organizers, faculty members and participants of the show. Alongwith, certificates for all the attendees of the event. He went on to arrange a caterer at reasonable price, a photographer and a musical band. Also guaranteed, he will bear all, if the expenses got out of hands. All the organizers were overwhelmed, took a breath of relief and accepted his generous offers.

Dr. Naveed had attached two faculty members Madam Sanobra and Mr. Mustaneer. Sanobra turned out to be a great help, whereas, the other, turned out to be none. Sanobra suggested an excellent performance of Shakespearean play, Hamlet, by the young students at the department, to be a part of the show. Also recommended young scholars, for recitation of holy Quran and Naat. She remained at the venue, from the beginning till the end and displayed great support. the organizers remain truly grateful to her. Madam Qamar Khushi and Ms. Zainab Raza for being there to represent the permanent faculty.

Madam Mamoona Yasmin teaches at women's university Multan, she proved to be an asset for approaching and accessing the alumni. It was because of her that this reunion was attended by a greater number of ladies than before. Her efforts were acknowledged and she was awarded a shield. Angela Simone Sharpe, remained an enthusiastic motivating force among the organizers. She also volunteered to conduct the informal session, alongwith Mr. Amir Hafeez. Ramsha Zabta, remained a great support and contributed her services in hosting informal session. Together, they helped the attendees of reunion re-live their memories and tried to bring out the old, young souls in them. Indeed, splendid.

Sumera Khalil an extremely talented hostess, team member of organizers of the event, traveled all the way from Lahore to be part of this reunion. She is an excellent show anchor, has performed responsibilities of hosting at mega events by provincial Punjab govt in Lahore and also at some previous reunions.
The organizers decided to put her experience to use during formal session of the reunion and she did a fabulous job. She mesmerised the audience with her graceful eloquence of poetic recitations and with poise in her personality. No shield or certificate can justify as a return for her efforts and her services.

Mr. Amir Hafeez remained a catalyst of enthusiasm throughout the function. He brightened the scene with his relentless energy, smile and cheerfulness. He joked around at the event, laughed and made others laugh. Danced and made others dance. There was not a single moment that he let the boredom prevail, upon himself or the others and hosted both the formal and informal sessions. Informal, with Angela and Ramsha. Whereas, formal with one and only Sumera Khalil.

As you must have learnt by now, the function was based on two parts. Inormal & formal session. Informal part started at 4pm. Mr. Kamran Ali, Mr. Mushtaq Kharral and Mr. Javed Iqbal were there on the reception. Joined soon by Angela, Fariha and Ramsha. Informal, was more of a chit chat, introductory kind of session. Some games and fun activities were carried out to entertain the guests. People shared memories of their times. Specially, Mr. Intikhab's creation, his emotional poem about change in people and times, touched everybody's hearts. Mr. Riaz Qayum delivered some dialogues from Mola Jutt. Zeeshan Qadri, Bilal Ahmad and Umer Darraz also put up some performances and so did Mr. Mubashir Hashmi.

Formal session started at 6.30 pm, with recitation of holy Quran, followed by naat. Sumera Khalil, engineered and orchestrated this part of the show. She started with recital of beautiful verses and invited the organizers to come on stage and share their views. Mr. Mushtaq Kharral added some comedy by reading his funny writings. Followed by few scenes from Hamlet a remarkable performance by students of the dept. Mr. Kamran Ali, Fariha Munir, addressed the gathering and thanked everyone for their presence. Special thanks to Ms. Zainab Raza, Ms. Sanobra, Madam Qamar Khushi were conveyed. H.O.D Dr. Naveed Ch, appreciated the organizers, the event and thanked them for it. Shields and certificates distribution ceremony took place. Followed by musical concert and a lot of dancing by the gentlemen. Which only ended when a lavish dinner, complete with sweet dish was served.

Truly thankful to all those who took time out and made this event a success by being there. Special thanks to my class fellows from session 1992-94. Bilal Ahmad, Umer Darraz and Intikhab, your presence reminded of good old times and proved to be a true reunion after 25 years. Stay happy and blessed, all of you. See you next time.

M.G.M. Swimming pool.

View of the domes of MGM bulding from inside the pool. The crystal clear blue water. Chairs lined up for the spectators. Little pool for the toddlers. Summer is finally here, although, the weather still turns unpredictable at times. But still, one feels like taking a dip in the cool, cool water of a crystal clear pool.  M.G.M (Multan Garrison Mess. Commonly known among  Multanis, by its' old name 'services club'), opens up, pool doors for all its' members every 15th of April. The pool is open air, so it works on seasonal basis. From April to September/ October (if weather allows it).  Last year, the pool remained open, only till May, after that, it was shut down for renovations & could not be reopened because of the 'dengue' scare. MGM pool has always been, undoubtedly the biggest & the best in this city, with an excellent filtration plant to boast & an extremely dedicated team of military men as workers, for maintaining th

Leading lady of Multan Mrs. Farrukh Mukhtar

Mrs. Farrukh Mukhtar Mrs. Farrukh Mukhtar is a name synonymous with women empowerment in entire South Punjab. She is a living proof of the saying, 'empowered women, empower other women'. She became a member of Majlis-e-shurra of Pakistan and served at that position from 1982 to 1985 and dedicated herself for the betterment of underprivileged women of South Punjab.  Mrs. Farrukh Mukhtar was fully aware of the talents of the women of this area and knew how their skills were exploited at home and at work. She was determined to uplift and raise their standards of living, through education and trainings. She was among first people to ever demand a separate university for the girls of Multan and remained persistent about it. Finally, it bore fruit, three decades later, in form of women's university Multan.  Not just education, but she has worked for the social and economic empowerment of the women too. She is the president of Ladies club Multan. A social platform, which exists fo

Annual debates at SOS Herman Gmeiner school

Glimpses from the event When you first visit SOS Herman Gmeiner school Multan, you are amazed by its majestic architectural design, beautifully decorated class rooms, functional libraries, meticulously pruned playgrounds, clean walkways and glistening environment. You look at the well mannered, disciplined, full of smiles students, extremely efficient staff members, all this makes you believe that this must be a high end school. To be honest, it is equally great in all its standards. Rather better in some, as they have Rosetta Stone library, through its audio/video English learning methods, children of this school have acquired exceptional accents and perfect pronunciations. Each student has access to laptop in computer class, their teachers use smartboard alongwith blackboard. Even their teachers are assessed and guided with the help of executive committee members. There is a subject of  'general knowledge', which is based on the colorful books in their library, it requires th
