THE FASHION SHOW. 28th January 2012

President of SPWCCI, Masooma Sibtain Shoaib, with the writer of this blog  Fariha.
The arrival of year 2012, brought an exciting news, of a fashion show, for the womenfolk of Multan. It was to take place at the 'Ladies club, Multan', in collaboration with 'SPWCCI' (South Punjab, women of chamber of commerce & industry). All those involved in organizing this event, were extremely serious & concerned about making it a success, which required great deal of effort. Lack of funds & insufficient means, were great hurdles, but excellent planning & great team work, brought out excellent results. Prominent designers, who were also members of SPWCCI, were invited to showcase their work, through this fashion show & also by holding an exhibition. This also served as a tool for fund raising for the chamber. President of the chamber, the bright & brilliant, Masooma Sibtain Shoaib, requested the designers, willing to participate, to submit an amount, which was added to chamber fund. Mahnaz Amir Sheikh, was the main factor behind bringing these two giant institutes, 'ladies club' & 'women of chamber', together. Mahnaz & ladies of her family, hosted the whole function, complete, with dinner & other arrangements at 'ladies club'.

As we all know, designers are always the life & soul of a fashion show. It was their participation that it turned out to be such a beautiful show. Masooma Sibtain Shoaib of  'Trends boutique', Mrs. Naseem Raheem, Farrah Faisal & Rabia Rahman, Humera Batool, Mrs Khushnood & Ambreen, brightened the scene by exhibiting their beautiful outfits.

When it came to models, again, due to insufficient funds, professional models could not be hired. But with my brain working along with others, we found a way out. We requested our own children & their friends to come & participate as models. Within days, an entire team of 22 decent, pretty, well groomed, young girls of ages from 9 to 19, was raised. Most of them, from 'Beaconhouse, Multan'. These young girls volunteered an entire week out of their busy study schedules for rehearsals & practices to perfect the model walk.

Then rose the question, who is going to teach these little girls how to walk on ramp & act like models. Nobody was willing to take this responsibility, so I took it on my shoulders. & later, many of the girls mentioned that they found it easier to work with me (Fariha Munir Shah :), without compromising on the quality or effort of their work.

Everybody, involved in the fashion show wanted it to be a thorough professional one. & without professional make-up & hair styling, it was impossible. & Masooma just found out the right person, who had the right skills, was able & willing to help. No other than, the owner of 'Alle' Nora' Multan, Mrs. Ittrat Bano. This lady, not only provided free make-up & hair styling for the 22 girls, but also entertained them well, by serving them snacks & coffee. & later, also graced the event by her presence. Her contribution, will always be remembered by the members of ladies club, members of SPWCCI,  & girls who participated as models & I am sure, all of them would select her parlour, the day they're going to become brides in real life. Because, she did a fabulous job in make-up & hair styling for them, all for free.

Finally, the event took place & turned out to be a splendid one. Something all of us are going to remember for years to come & specially for the young girls who modelled, it was a fascinating experience, that they're going to remember all their lives.

Congratulations, to all those who participated in it & made it an enormous success.

Summer is finally here, although, the weather still turns unpredictable at times. But still, one feels like taking a dip in the cool, cool water of a crystal clear pool.  M.G.M (Multan Garrison Mess. Commonly known among  Multanis, by its' old name 'services club'), opens up, pool doors for all its' members every 15th of April. The pool is open air, so it works on seasonal basis. From April to September/ October (if weather allows it).  Last year, the pool remained open, only till May, after that, it was shut down for renovations & could not be reopened because of the 'dengue' scare. MGM pool has always been, undoubtedly the biggest & the best in this city, with an excellent filtration plant to boast & an extremely dedicated team of military men as workers, for maintaining th

Annual debates at SOS Herman Gmeiner school

Glimpses from the event When you first visit SOS Herman Gmeiner school Multan, you are amazed by its majestic architectural design, beautifully decorated class rooms, functional libraries, meticulously pruned playgrounds, clean walkways and glistening environment. You look at the well mannered, disciplined, full of smiles students, extremely efficient staff members, all this makes you believe that this must be a high end school. To be honest, it is equally great in all its standards. Rather better in some, as they have Rosetta Stone library, through its audio/video English learning methods, children of this school have acquired exceptional accents and perfect pronunciations. Each student has access to laptop in computer class, their teachers use smartboard alongwith blackboard. Even their teachers are assessed and guided with the help of executive committee members. There is a subject of  'general knowledge', which is based on the colorful books in their library, it requires th

Leading lady of Multan Mrs. Farrukh Mukhtar

Mrs. Farrukh Mukhtar Mrs. Farrukh Mukhtar is a name synonymous with women empowerment in entire South Punjab. She is a living proof of the saying, 'empowered women, empower other women'. She became a member of Majlis-e-shurra of Pakistan and served at that position from 1982 to 1985 and dedicated herself for the betterment of underprivileged women of South Punjab.  Mrs. Farrukh Mukhtar was fully aware of the talents of the women of this area and knew how their skills were exploited at home and at work. She was determined to uplift and raise their standards of living, through education and trainings. She was among first people to ever demand a separate university for the girls of Multan and remained persistent about it. Finally, it bore fruit, three decades later, in form of women's university Multan.  Not just education, but she has worked for the social and economic empowerment of the women too.
