SPWCCI celebrates GEW with NUML University

Masooma Sibtain Shoaib, chief speaker of the seminar.

'National university of modern languages' (or NUML, as it is popularly known), is providing their students, maximum exposure to personalities, engaged in inspiring roles in the society.  To serve the purpose, different seminars are conducted and people from different walks of life are invited at the campus to share their stories and experiences with the students, to enkindle in them a spirit to serve their nation and to be useful to the society.

On 12th March, 2013, as part of  GEW ( Global entrepreneurship week) activities and women's day celebration a seminar was conducted at NUML, Multan.  Under the title, 'uplifting humanity through women empowerment', to define the capacity  of building the nation by improving economic conditions of females in the society

And there could not be, better and inspiring role models for entrepreneurship, than members of SPWCCI. These strong, prominent, motivated, financially independent, business women, have the capability and experience to commove the audience by narrating their stories.

The administration of NUML, welcomed the participants in a formal, sophisticated way. An impressive reception awaited them, with flower bouquets for each member. SPWCCI representatives included, Mrs. Zahra Khitran (President), Mrs. Naseem Raheem (vice-president), Mrs. Masooma Sibtain (former president SPWCCI), Mrs. Fariha Munir Shah (convener media committee) and Mahwish Saleem.

The seminar hall of the university was filled with students, there to be a part of global entrepreneurship week. Ms. Rabia Khand, conducted the program. The show started with tilawat-e-Quran.

First to address was Mrs. Naseem Raheem, who shared with audience her remarkable success story, spread over decades of hard work. Due to which, she has an established, well reputed boutique business today. But it also provided multiple opportunities of traveling the world and expanding her business at international level, thanks to SPWCCI. She encouraged the students to carry out ventures, in the field of business, instead of looking up for jobs, after completing their education.

Next was Mrs. Zahra Khitran, who amused everybody by revealing the secret tricks, she used to help her companions to sell their stuff at different international exhibitions. The most interesting of the anecdotes, she shared was; once, at an exhibition in Paris, how she managed to sell a single sleeve/arm of an embroidered  shirt, twice the price of the entire suit. Then managed to sell dupatta as a scarf and remaining parts separately and instead of 100 Euros, earned around 1000 Euros, out of single suit.

The convener media committee of SPWCCI, Fariha Munir Shah (who happens to be the recognized, 1st female blogger of South Punjab) highlighted the importance of social media. She also shared, how according to the suggestion of Masooma Sibtain, she started blogging. And mixed her partying experience to it and started projecting, lifestyle of Multani-ites at an international platform. Today, she is known as 'the face of Multan'. Highly admired for presenting the positive, social side of the city of saints.

Mahwish Saleem is a young member, who successfully runs her, 'jewellery business'. She also related stories of her travels and successful expansion of her business, under the banner of 'SPWCCI'. Students showed an instant liking for her trade and inquired a lot of things about it.

Last, to address was the 'chief speaker' and representative of SPWCCI, Masooma Sibtain. It was not the first time that Masooma stood at the rostrum of NUML. For her, it was just a continuation of several other visits. The extremely capable former president of the chamber has the ability to galvanize people through her words. The moment she ended her speech, left the entire audience, awe-struck and magnetized. Masooma went on to describe the significance of Global entrepreneurship week and how students can shape society by becoming entrepreneurs. The students, immediately started asking questions, the possibilities of joining the chamber and what businesses they can opt for, etc. Masooma, took their questions patiently and answered them in detail.

At the end, Rabia Khand invited Regional Director, NUML. Brigadier (retired) Abdul Razaq to give away the shields to distinguished guests. Later, they were all entertained over a formal hi-tea. It was indeed, a superb event. We congratulate NUML administration, alongwith students and SPWCCI for coming together and making it a huge success. Happy Global entrepreneurship week everybody!

I just wish, u had the ability to read through, the details given under the title. I have always stood for freedom for women and their empowerment. If it wasn't so, I wouldn't have been here at all. We must adopt whatever is good in East or west. But not at the price of sacrificing social, moral and religious values of our own. Anyway, your comment is enough to prove, that u don't know me, at all.

Dear anonymous this blog here is not written with the aim of promoting western or eastern ideologies.. The basic aim was to form better communication channels with the youth today. The seminar was based on the role of woman entreprenuer with the relevance of the celebration of the women day.. Women have been a part of the economic world not from today but from the time of our beloved Prophet who not only assisted a business woman but also encouraged her and then even married her. Women have been and always will be an integeral part of this world and so why not promote it. The blogger Fariha Munir Shah has just promoted the little joint effort made by SPWCCI and NUML in promoting women entreprenuers. Any personal comments or discretion should be either kept to themselves or messaged to the blogger directly, and not on such public forums. Your words are highly demotivating and are portraying this positive effort in a very pessimistic manner.

ladies and gentlemen why so anger and rudeness ? i am just saying that concept of women empowerment and freedom should be spread by those who believe in these concepts from heart , not have dual thinking and dual standards , saying some thing else and doing some thing else. live happily all, wait for proper time, love and respect you all

Anonymous, If u have some psychic powers to look into the hearts and minds of people, even then, u're blind enough to see this blog is being administrated by a woman. Most of the events and programs covered here are mainly based on women activities. Is it not enough a display of female empowerment?

And if your attacks are targeted at me. Though, I don't think, it is a matter of pride. But who can claim to be more westernized in this city than I am? Never in my life, was I ever a burqa or chadar clad woman. Yet I've always been pride of being a Muslim and I've always been a feminist. Nobody can claim, I ever imposed my personal religious, moral or social values on others.

Being a teacher, it is my duty to tell, what is ethically right or wrong. And there too, I only told the difference, never imposed anything.

But whoever u are, it is your display of hypocrisy, u curse at one side and say love u all at other. U're hiding behind veils of anonymity. I'm right there, infront of everybody, as I have always been. No pretenses, no affectations. The real, original, me.

Annual debates at SOS Herman Gmeiner school

Glimpses from the event When you first visit SOS Herman Gmeiner school Multan, you are amazed by its majestic architectural design, beautifully decorated class rooms, functional libraries, meticulously pruned playgrounds, clean walkways and glistening environment. You look at the well mannered, disciplined, full of smiles students, extremely efficient staff members, all this makes you believe that this must be a high end school. To be honest, it is equally great in all its standards. Rather better in some, as they have Rosetta Stone library, through its audio/video English learning methods, children of this school have acquired exceptional accents and perfect pronunciations. Each student has access to laptop in computer class, their teachers use smartboard alongwith blackboard. Even their teachers are assessed and guided with the help of executive committee members. Leading lady of Multan Mrs. Farrukh Mukhtar

Mrs. Farrukh Mukhtar Mrs. Farrukh Mukhtar is a name synonymous with women empowerment in entire South Punjab. She is a living proof of the saying, 'empowered women, empower other women'. She became a member of Majlis-e-shurra of Pakistan and served at that position from 1982 to 1985 and dedicated herself for the betterment of underprivileged women of South Punjab.  Mrs. Farrukh Mukhtar was fully aware of the talents of the women of this area and knew how their skills were exploited at home and at work. She was determined to uplift and raise their standards of living, through education and trainings. She was among first people to ever demand a separate university for the girls of Multan and remained persistent about it. Finally, it bore fruit, three decades later, in form of women's university Multan.  Not just education, but she has worked for the social and economic empowerment of the women too. She is the president of Ladies club Multan. A social platform, which exists fo
