The best debaters of the city of saints, students of SOS Herman Gmeiner school, Multan

For the children of city of saints, SOS Herman Gmeiner school Multan, is a powerhouse of quality education, character building and personality development. Where a lot of hard work goes in; efforts are made by its staff and students to acquire excellent grades and hundred percent results, extra curricular activities are not ignored but equally valued and encouraged.

For polishing oratory skills and to foster self confidence in its students, this school has been arranging a debates competition every year for almost a decade now. In the beginning, the competitions were internal, among its school students only. Three years ago, for the first time Beaconhouse school was invited to hold a competition with students of HG school and then there was no looking back. Every passing year, brought more schools to be a part of this competition.

For the year 2019, a record number of Nine schools participated. Beaconhouse, Jinnah Highs, City school, LGS, Garrison Public school, Multan Public school, SOS Herman Gmeiner school took part in the contest. Contest was held on 26th November, at beautiful custom made premises of SOS Herman Gmeiner School Multan.

Layla Saqib  renowned educationist and head of 'help squad'; Dr. Sanobra Rizwan, assistant professor, department of English BZU, were invited to serve as judges of the debates. Head of Cardiology center Dr. Rana Altaf and  DCO Multan, Mr. Amir Khattak were the chief guests. Mr. Nasurrullah from NFC was the guest of honor. Members of Executive committee of SOS vilage Multan, Mr. Fareed Sheikh, Mr. Bakhtawar Tanveer, Mr. Shahbaz Chattha, Mr. Tallaat, Mr. Najeeb graced the event with their presence. As this event also serves as the parents day for HG school, a good number of parents also attended it.

Students of nine esteemed schools contested at different levels and topics. Students of SOS Herman Gmeiner school won the trophy with maximum prizes. Those who were present at the event could tell, children of SOS school were not less talented but more competent and proved their mettle infront of other schools, which are considered high, mighty and top class.

Remember folks, SOS Herman Gmeiner school is specially meant to cater for children of Blue collared or Pink collared people. With a purpose of putting no pressure on their pockets. It provides quality education and confidence to children from underprivileged households. By bringing expensive, high end schools to compete here, SOS Herman Gmeiner school provides these children a chance to believe in themselves, that they are equal to them.

Not only debates, but all those who visited for the first time were surprised to see the building of school as well. The honorable chief guest Dr. Rana Altaf expressed in his speech that he was extremely impressed to see the infra structure of school. Facilities like, use of interactive smart school board and tabs in class room, Rosetta stone lab, are unique, one their kind available in entire South Punjab. DCO Multan, Mr. Amir Khattak, who was second chief guest expressed similar kind of feelings. He was actually awe struck by the idea of holding debates contest at such a big level.

During the show, there were some entertaining breaks also, a recital about the deteriorating condition of mother 'Earth' and climate change, was presented. Through a tabloid, based on Faiz Ahmad Faiz's poetry, sung by Tina Sani, 'bol k lab azad hein teray', the state of abuse against Pakistani children was highlighted. Even in entertainment, the focus remained the current and most sensitive subjects.

Alongwith inter-schools debates competitions,  Mahnaz Fareed put an interesting idea to practice. She included the female executive committee members of SOS village and HG school in the contest too. A panel style debate, between 9 students from all contesting schools including SOS Herman Gmeiner with ECMs, Mrs. Samina Bucha, Rubina Arshad , Fariha Munir , Saira Nasir, Rameen Anis, Mahnaz Fareed, Saima Faisal, Sidra Bakhtawar. Children were strong; well prepared and had the ladies all shaking. Yet, as it is said, seniors are seniors after all, ECM won the contest and awarded Gold medals, which got them all excited and happy.

These competitions are the biggest annual event of SOS Herman Gmeiner school. The reason behind amazing success every year is the hard work and superb planning by staff of this school. Executive committee members team formed by the head of all SOS projects in Multan, Mahnaz Fareed, also takes part in organizing this event. Congratulations to all of them for this accomplishment once more, alongwith the principal, Mrs. Meher. Keep up they good work. Others maybe minting money but SOS Herman Gmeiner school, definitely earns the biggest amount of prayers.

Commonly known among  Multanis, by its' old name 'services club'), opens up, pool doors for all its' members every 15th of April. The pool is open air, so it works on seasonal basis. From April to September/ October (if weather allows it).  Last year, the pool remained open, only till May, after that, it was shut down for renovations & could not be reopened because of the 'dengue' scare. MGM pool has always been, undoubtedly the biggest & the best in this city, with an excellent filtration plant to boast & an extremely dedicated team of military men as workers, for maintaining th

Floral fiesta by Mahwish Abdulhaq

Mahwish Abdulhaq with Hafsa Ali and Mahwish with her son Musa March is the month of flowers and fragrances, this was exactly what Mahwish Abdulhaq, (famous for her project Enlightened Multan) had in mind to celebrate her turn to throw a party in FMS committee party. She selected 'flowers fiesta' as theme for the event. When she floated the plan among other members, they pooled in their own ideas too. Floral clothes, hair styled with flowers, garlands.  Yet, what unfolded when they reached Mahwish's respledent house, surprised everyone. Nobody could have imagined the amount of the flowers which adorned the place. Vases and vases, full of flowers. Garlands for the guests, bouquets for the winners of different games planned by Mahwish and her children.  Mahwish's children, Hanifa, Musa and had planned a T20 for the guests. All of them were taken to the lawns, where wickets, bats and balls awaited them. Musa and his brother lead as captains and they picked their players fro
