Tea and talk with Dr Mahmood Shah by Enlightened Multan

Glimpses of the event

February 2021 witnessed two remarkable enlightening events, hosted by
Khawaja Abdul Haq
and Mrs. Mahwish Abdulhaq
titled 'Multan Enlightenment days', which eventually caused the launch of a superb new community named 'Enlightened Multan'. Aimed at enlightening the minds and souls of natives of the city of saints about mental health and social issues. In the month of March, as the times were getting unpredictable because third wave of Corona was ringing the bells around the corner and there were news coming up of lockdowns and bans on the social events. Yet, the extremely successful proceedings of the previous events had raised a great demand among this community to arrange more of such gatherings.
Khawaja Abdul Haq
who himself is an intellectual personality, a great motivational speaker, a knowledgeable and scholarly person, alongwith being leader of 'Enlightened Multan', was particular about the change of topic and even of the audience. This time, the target audience was among college students, their parents and teachers, as the topic was about drug use in the youth, its reasons and preventions.

For the purpose, tea & talk with Dr. Mahmood Shah was arranged on 13th March, in the beautiful ambiance of Mahwish and Abdul Haq's palatial lawn. Planned and orchestrated by Madam Asifa Tareen and Mahwish Abdul-Haq, supported by Novaira Fahad. The show was hosted by Hanifa Abdul-Haq. Who carried on the proceedings, invited and introduced the speaker. Dr. Mahmood Ali Shah is the most well known and established psychiatrist of Multan. He is a gold medalist, consultant neuro psychiatrist. A medical graduate from Dow medical Karachi, D.P.M (Pakistan) and D.P.M (England) and has also rendered services at 'mental health care (medisurge hospital).

Dr. Mahmood delivered an extremely informative lecture, highlighted the important issues and encouraged the guest to discuss and question different aspects of the topic. The young and the old at gathering were full of queries and stories to relate. Which sure proved that it learned and woke audience.

Cherry on top of the cake was the presence of youth from SOS village Multan. The great debaters, superb speakers and skilled young people that they are. They were there, not just to learn but share their experiences too. We must appreciate the administration of 'SOS village Multan', which makes great efforts to educate, enlighten and acquaint these children with the world outside and encourage them to become part of every enlightening activity, taking place in the city of saints.

No doubt, the efforts of
Khawaja Abdul Haq
are great in making every event a success. He has involved not just one or two of his family members, but all of them are on board as active and contributing member in this venture of ' Enlightened Multan',
however Mahwish Abdulhaq's dedication is exceptional and inspirational. Veiled in her own grace, she does not even want to reveal her face and she is there to serve, enlighten, brighten and help her husband's cause to flourish. Mahwish Abdulhaq is a symbol that an empowered woman is an empowered woman, whether she is dressed in traditional attire or western wear. Enlightened Multan is another example of a perfect harmony between both the types. Society will only change for the better, when all of us work and collaborate together, keeping our differences away. Great work, Enlightened Multan and all its superb team-mates. Keep up the good work.

Commonly known among  Multanis, by its' old name 'services club'), opens up, pool doors for all its' members every 15th of April. The pool is open air, so it works on seasonal basis. From April to September/ October (if weather allows it).  Last year, the pool remained open, only till May, after that, it was shut down for renovations & could not be reopened because of the 'dengue' scare. Leading lady of Multan Mrs. Farrukh Mukhtar

Mrs. Farrukh Mukhtar Mrs. Farrukh Mukhtar is a name synonymous with women empowerment in entire South Punjab. She is a living proof of the saying, 'empowered women, empower other women'. She became a member of Majlis-e-shurra of Pakistan and served at that position from 1982 to 1985 and dedicated herself for the betterment of underprivileged women of South Punjab.  Mrs. Farrukh Mukhtar was fully aware of the talents of the women of this area and knew how their skills were exploited at home and at work. She was determined to uplift and raise their standards of living, through education and trainings. She was among first people to ever demand a separate university for the girls of Multan and remained persistent about it. Finally, it bore fruit, three decades later, in form of women's university Multan.  Not just education, but she has worked for the social and economic empowerment of the women too. Annual debates at SOS Herman Gmeiner school

Glimpses from the event When you first visit SOS Herman Gmeiner school Multan, you are amazed by its majestic architectural design, beautifully decorated class rooms, functional libraries, meticulously pruned playgrounds, clean walkways and glistening environment. You look at the well mannered, disciplined, full of smiles students, extremely efficient staff members, all this makes you believe that this must be a high end school. To be honest, it is equally great in all its standards. Rather better in some, as they have Rosetta Stone library, through its audio/video English learning methods, children of this school have acquired exceptional accents and perfect pronunciations. Each student has access to laptop in computer class, their teachers use smartboard alongwith blackboard. Even their teachers are assessed and guided with the help of executive committee members. There is a subject of  'general knowledge', which is based on the colorful books in their library, it requires th
