Friends of SOS bid farewell to 2019

Hostesses of the party with children of SOS

Sumaira Arshad, Sadia Dogar, Asia Ijaz, Zulekha Furqan, Ghazala Fraz, Hina Babar, Hadiaa Khakwani, Rukhshy, Roman Khakwani, Saba Khizar Joiya, were the lucky 'friends of Sos' who had a chance to host end of year party and they left no stone unturned to make it as pleasant and memorable, as it could be. End of year, winters, Christmas, these are all the reasons to celebrate in December and all of these formed a theme for this tea party, arranged at the dreamy, cafe saints at Ramada Multan, on Friday the 13th.

Highlight of the event was the fabulous news that , head of all SOS projects in Multan, Mahnaz Fareed Sheikh has been appointed, Vice president of SOS Pakistan. What an honor she has brought to the city of saints. National or international level, wherever she goes, she will remain an ambassador of this city from South Punjab. Hearty congratulations to Mahnaz Fareed for making us all proud. Of course, this called for a celebration. So, Mrs. Fozia Mughees Sheikh, presided over the event to bestow her blessings and wish her daughter inlaw, all the best for the future.

Birthday celebrations of children at SOS village are becoming a favorite thing, among friends of SOS. All the SOS children, born in December, had their birthdays celebrated at the event. Superb arrangements were done to decorate the venue for the purpose. Baloon arches, photo booth, special stage for cake cutting ceremony and gifts for birthday children. Everything was there.

Hania Shahid conducted the show and congratulated Mahnaz Fareed and invited her to address the gathering. Mahnaz expressed how she was touched by the immense love and support of friends of SOS Multan. She also went on to say, people of Multan are the best, they are so kind and generous, blessed with a spirit of philanthropy that she has not witnessed elsewhere.

The hostesses appeared bright and beautiful and shared their happy vibes with the guests by extending their kind hospitality. Everything was done in the best way possible and at the end a splendid, scrumptious hi-tea was hosted. Well done again.

M.G.M. Swimming pool.

View of the domes of MGM bulding from inside the pool. The crystal clear blue water. Chairs lined up for the spectators. Little pool for the toddlers. Summer is finally here, although, the weather still turns unpredictable at times. But still, one feels like taking a dip in the cool, cool water of a crystal clear pool.  M.G.M (Multan Garrison Mess. Commonly known among  Multanis, by its' old name 'services club'), opens up, pool doors for all its' members every 15th of April. The pool is open air, so it works on seasonal basis. From April to September/ October (if weather allows it).  Last year, the pool remained open, only till May, after that, it was shut down for renovations & could not be reopened because of the 'dengue' scare. MGM pool has always been, undoubtedly the biggest & the best in this city, with an excellent filtration plant to boast & an extremely dedicated team of military men as workers, for maintaining th...

Leading lady of Multan Mrs. Farrukh Mukhtar

Mrs. Farrukh Mukhtar Mrs. Farrukh Mukhtar is a name synonymous with women empowerment in entire South Punjab. She is a living proof of the saying, 'empowered women, empower other women'. She became a member of Majlis-e-shurra of Pakistan and served at that position from 1982 to 1985 and dedicated herself for the betterment of underprivileged women of South Punjab.  Mrs. Farrukh Mukhtar was fully aware of the talents of the women of this area and knew how their skills were exploited at home and at work. She was determined to uplift and raise their standards of living, through education and trainings. She was among first people to ever demand a separate university for the girls of Multan and remained persistent about it. Finally, it bore fruit, three decades later, in form of women's university Multan.  Not just education, but she has worked for the social and economic empowerment of the women too. She is the president of Ladies club Multan. A social platform, which exists fo...

Celebration of Saraiki culture

Uzma Burana hosting her show Multan is one of the few places on earth, where Saraiki is regarded a native language.  As this city is considered a parallel civilization to Rome; Saraiki is often compared to French language in sweetness, softness and beauty. It has a strange poetic quality about it. This language is widely spoken in entire South of Punjab and at the bordering areas in Sindh, Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtoonkhwah. Richness of Saraiki heritage and culture can flabbergast those, who are unaware of it. Vibrance of colours, ethnic touch, elegance wrapped in austerity, these characteristics truly elevate Saraiki handicrafts from rest of the world. Here, everything can be hand embroidered. Apparel, shoes, beddings, wall hangings, table to foot mats. You name it and Saraiki people would present to you an article dripping with colour, shimmer and originality. Artefacts made of camel skin, mirror work, miniatures, paintings, mosaic. Truly hand made, from beginni...
