Filza Akbar's exhibition.

The name, Filza Akbar, means success. From her academic life, to emergence as an iconic entrepreneur, success is written everywhere in her story. A dedicated mother, daughter, wife and sister, she justifies all her roles with equal competence. Being the member of SPWCCI, she had the opportunity to travel the world, exhibiting her creations at, France, India, etc. Her meticulous work is admired even more, back home in Multan. She implicates beautifully, traditional Multani embroideries & ethnic work, with the modern and trendy outfits.

Recently, she brought out, much demanded, 'summer collection' of her designer wear in an exhibition, arranged at, Mrs. Razia Shah (her mother)'s house. It was more like a fun filled party than a commercial event. The pleasant mother and daughter, entertained their friends with tea, coffee, haleem and cold drinks and further beautified, their shopping experience. The beautifully designed clothes, sold like hot cakes and the turn over of the ladies was so great in number, that a friend of Filza joked, 'it seems as if, Filza is distributing everything for free'.

Filza is also among the young socialites of this city, who have an excellent circle of supportive friends. Her mother, Mrs.Razia Shah, is well loved and holds a great circle, in her own age group. So both of them  together, form a big magnetic field of attraction, filled with warmth of love, care and affection, which many of the women enjoy being a part of.

We admire Filza's skills to design, create and market her product in an amazing way. And congratulate her, for another brilliant event of successful exhibition. Bravo, girl! Keep up the good work.

M.G.M. Swimming pool.

View of the domes of MGM bulding from inside the pool. The crystal clear blue water. Chairs lined up for the spectators. Little pool for the toddlers. Summer is finally here, although, the weather still turns unpredictable at times. But still, one feels like taking a dip in the cool, cool water of a crystal clear pool.  M.G.M (Multan Garrison Mess. Commonly known among  Multanis, by its' old name 'services club'), opens up, pool doors for all its' members every 15th of April. The pool is open air, so it works on seasonal basis. From April to September/ October (if weather allows it).  Last year, the pool remained open, only till May, after that, it was shut down for renovations & could not be reopened because of the 'dengue' scare. MGM pool has always been, undoubtedly the biggest & the best in this city, with an excellent filtration plant to boast & an extremely dedicated team of military men as workers, for maintaining th...

Leading lady of Multan Mrs. Farrukh Mukhtar

Mrs. Farrukh Mukhtar Mrs. Farrukh Mukhtar is a name synonymous with women empowerment in entire South Punjab. She is a living proof of the saying, 'empowered women, empower other women'. She became a member of Majlis-e-shurra of Pakistan and served at that position from 1982 to 1985 and dedicated herself for the betterment of underprivileged women of South Punjab.  Mrs. Farrukh Mukhtar was fully aware of the talents of the women of this area and knew how their skills were exploited at home and at work. She was determined to uplift and raise their standards of living, through education and trainings. She was among first people to ever demand a separate university for the girls of Multan and remained persistent about it. Finally, it bore fruit, three decades later, in form of women's university Multan.  Not just education, but she has worked for the social and economic empowerment of the women too. She is the president of Ladies club Multan. A social platform, which exists fo...

Celebration of Saraiki culture

Uzma Burana hosting her show Multan is one of the few places on earth, where Saraiki is regarded a native language.  As this city is considered a parallel civilization to Rome; Saraiki is often compared to French language in sweetness, softness and beauty. It has a strange poetic quality about it. This language is widely spoken in entire South of Punjab and at the bordering areas in Sindh, Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtoonkhwah. Richness of Saraiki heritage and culture can flabbergast those, who are unaware of it. Vibrance of colours, ethnic touch, elegance wrapped in austerity, these characteristics truly elevate Saraiki handicrafts from rest of the world. Here, everything can be hand embroidered. Apparel, shoes, beddings, wall hangings, table to foot mats. You name it and Saraiki people would present to you an article dripping with colour, shimmer and originality. Artefacts made of camel skin, mirror work, miniatures, paintings, mosaic. Truly hand made, from beginni...
